Lotus takes the crown for being the most potent track racing vehicle in the segment

The Lotus Exige S, Alpina B3 GT3 and the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG are the three stalwarts of the same segment and these vehicles are most likely to get the best lap times for their manufacturers. The Lotus Exige S is the track gorging beast in this segment but is the underdog when it comes to performance orientation.

The Mercedes and Alpina are both powerful machines producing the greatest horsepower, however only a track test can prove the true grit of the vehicles as a potent driver's car.
Control does not only refer to a car going sideways with ease, but also maneuverability and sharp controls. The Mercedes Benz C63 AMG and the Alpina B3 GT3 are based on quite similar platforms and both feature rear wheel drive technology. Power development is close to 400 BHP for each of the vehicles.

However, on the exterior front, the vehicles are quite different and they can be visually distinguished. The vehicles also figure a difference in trim levels and hardware. On the power train front, the C63 AMG is powered by a V8 producing 6208 cc connected to a seven speed automatic transmission and the engine develops 457 ft lb of torque along with 510 BHP. The AMG weighs in close to 1710 kg and will burn a hole of 110,000 Pounds in your pocket.

However, the top speed of the AMG has been limited to 185 MPH with acceleration to 60 MPH coming in 4.2 seconds. On the other hand, the Alpina B3 GT3 tells a completely different story, the vehicle does not look as muscular as the AMG not performs close to what the AMG does. However, the vehicle is an overall better choice due to a few reasons. The vehicle is powered by a 402 BHP producing engine lifted off the BMW 335i and this engine is mated to a Switch Tronic six speed automatic transmission.

The B3 GT3 is 175 kg lighter than the AMG and as a result it is faster. The vehicle uses a 3.5 liter V6 and as a result power displacement is not as robust as that of the AMG. The vehicle takes 4 seconds to reach the 60 MPH mark from 0 MPH and this occurs due to the fact that the vehicle is lighter than the AMG. The Alpina B3 GT3 is also a mid engine vehicle instead of being a rear engine one and as a result the power to weight ratio is also potent than other vehicles.

However, these vehicles are no match for the Lotus Exige S on track as the Lotus has been built exclusively to take on track racing. The Exige S has the perfectly aerodynamic body shape, design and technologies in this segment and as a result it is pretty difficult to catch up with this on track. Cornering is a special ability of the Exige S and this vehicle has been especially designed to tackle sharp turns with ease. All these vehicles have a point to prove on track and as a result the Lotus wins in this segment.
