Lotus Reveals its Next Generation Elise
|   Wednesday, October 30, 2013
Lotus is planning on introducing a complete new lineup within the next few years and the sublime range includes vehicles such as the Elan, Eterne, Elite and Esprit. This lineup is expected to be showcased at the Paris Motor Show, which is also expected to showcase the 2015 Elise. This will be the vehicle's first major makeover since it hit showrooms back during the mid 90's.

Although final prices are yet to be revealed, we expect a price tag close to £35,000 at the time of launch.
Lotus plans on keeping its mid engine format intact on the new design although major exterior changes define this vehicle. This vehicle features a rear wheel drive train and we believe a considerably new chassis (lifted off the Evora) is in play. Design characteristics make this vehicle young, ruthless and strong with a pint of confidence and we surely love where Lotus is heading with its designs.

Ruthless may be a tad too harsh when we are describing a vehicle and would like to rephrase that to bold. The new body frame is quite different from its last generation design although Lotus claims that a few subtle hints have been provided which makes sure people recognize it as the new Elise. We however beg to differ as we had a hard time finding any similarities to its predecessor.

However, it is up to you to decide whether you come up with similarities or like the new unique design anyhow. We however liked the new design as it breaks free from Lotus' monotonous exterior design patterns. Designers suggest they have taken inspirations from Toyota while power comes from a four cylinder 2.0 liter16 valve DOCH engine, developed by Toyota.

An optional dual clutch seven speed manual transmission system has been mated to the engine while a six speed manual is up as standard. Lotus however has its own engine management system, force feeding and accelerating power displacement. 316 BHP along with 243 ft lb of torque is standard while this vehicle weighs just about 2414 pounds. This gives it an immensely positive power to weight ratio while you do the math.

A top speed of 170 MPH is expected on this vehicle while this car is capable of accelerating from 0 – 60 MPH within 4.3 seconds. A naturally aspirated engine has not been mentioned in the books and we expect a turbo charged unit to be in place. Lotus describes its new engine block as a mild hybrid due to the advanced start / stop feature, mated to the mother system.

The interior is quite like its predecessor although dual sports seats ensure maximum comfort while driving. Low end torque is decent along with high end power displacement and this makes the 2015 Elise good on freeways as well as urban traffic. Feel free to check out the latest images of this car and share your reactions with us. Stay tuned as we will come up with latest images and more news once they surface.
