Lexus Reveals the RC-F Coupe at Detroit this Week
|   Friday, January 17, 2014
Lexus revealed the much awaited RC-F at the Detroit Motor Show this week. This vehicle competes with BMW's M4 and draws power from a V8 engine, displacing 450 BHP. It borrows technology from the LFA, although it holds its own ground in mass markets. Enhancing RC-F's drive appeal is a 5.0 liter V8 engine. It is one of the most powerful V8 powered production cars from Lexus so far, according to Chief Designer Yukihiko Yaguchi and goes head on against BMW's latest straight six twin turbo charged engine.

Critical information regarding this vehicle, including fuel efficiency, performance and luxury are yet to be revealed, although we expect high fuel economy owing to its Atkinson cycle powered engine, which comes to effect while cruising. Lexus says this vehicle has a Torque Vectoring Differential, offering various drive modes such as Slalom, Standard and Track.

Naturally aspirated V8 engines are quite powerful and return decent fuel efficiency, as compared to their turbo charged alternatives. Lexus is currently experimenting this on mass production and if the RC-F attains its primary objectives, we could be seeing more naturally aspirated engine options in the near future. Engineers at Lexus wanted to attain the maximum amount of fuel efficiency, without having to compromise on performance.

A hybrid drive train was originally designed, although they decided to operate a smoother engine, trying out newer designs. Hence, this naturally aspirated engine was designed. Although Lexus tried out a hybrid power train on the track tuned LFA back in 2012, they do not plan on using a similar drive train on any other vehicle immediately. However, it could be added to official lineup soon.

The RC-F features various mechanical and technical modifications, primary among which are its chassis, power train, suspension, interior trim and exterior. Various designs on this Coupe were borrowed from the LFA, although a major part of this car is new. Lexus claims, they will be borrowing technology from their range topping LFA in future production cars too. Hence, we can expect future vehicles to share similar technical or visual details with the LFA. Come back soon for latest news and updates.
