Latest Images of the Camouflaged BMW M3 Leaked
|   Wednesday, August 07, 2013
The spy images of the latest BMW M3 are beginning to trickle in and experts believe that within the next few months, the car will shed most if its camouflage and reveal its true self while testing. The M3 sports the codename F80 on the inside and will be the last M3 to be in production. Ironically, this will be the first M3 to be powered by a six cylindered turbo charged petrol engine.

The latest images showcase a camouflaged M3 saloon with a camouflaged light weight roof panel, sparking rumors that BMW might have modified the roof at the last minute.
The BMW M4 was also recently spotted testing and it is possible that both of these vehicles share a similar roof design.

The M3 is powered by a 3.0 liter six cylindered turbo charged petrol engine displacing 450 BHP and needless to say, the engine is highly modified and custom tuned for performance. However, the basic fuel injected petrol engine will also be present in the lineup. Owing to the heavy performance enhancements in the luxury saloon segment, the power generation of the M3 has been enhanced to place it in direct rivalry with cars such as the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG, Audi RS4 and the RS5.

He engine delivers 480 ft lb of torque, which equals to 80 ft lb more than the naturally aspirated 4.0 liter basic engine which is also available. The engine variants on the M3 will be mated to a dual clutch seven speed automatic transmission system, lifted directly off the BMW M5, although the ratio and alignment should vary. The M3 is based on a rear wheel drive train while the electronically adjustable slip differentials and dampers enhance the general ride quality and refinement.

BMW is not offering a manual transmission on the M3 and some of the basic components on the car have been altered for the first time since 1986. Although BMW is working towards a complete carbon fiber chassis and body for most of its vehicles, the M3 retains its durable unitary steel body frame.
However, in order to maintain a general weight below 1650 kg, much of the frame such as the roof and doors, are made up of aluminum. Adjustable damping controls and adaptive settings have been installed on the car and these enhance the way the car runs and performs. The dampers have three distinct adjustable settings which enhance performance based on the surrounding. The steering column has been adjusted to suit different driving conditions and overall, this car is completely different from the last generation M3.

Visual changes are evident although they are not very distinct from the current generation M3. A deeper front end, bumper and larger air inlets have been added to keep the engine cool and working. The rear differential and suspension have undergone considerable changes while larger exhaust and deeper rear bumpers have also been added to the car. A deep exhaust note completes the general drive feel while this is the most awaited M3 to be in production.
