Land Rover To Launch New Defender in 2018 and Promises Best Off-Road Performance in History
|   Thursday, December 01, 2016
The long awaited Land Rover Defender will go on sale in 2018. The new generation reaches a high level of development and promises to be “even more capable” than the iconic off-roader which it replaces.

So far, the fans of the brand have reasons to be happy because the company representatives have said that this new car will probably be the best off-road car in history. This statement is based, primarily, on the fact that the new Defender will benefit from a lot of the latest technologies, in addition to the engine being longitudinally mounted.

The new model will be based on the architecture of the new Discovery, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Also, it is rumored that this model will be assembled in the same factory in Solihull, though Land Rover has plants in several places. However, Ralph Speth, Jaguar Land Rover chief, said that these version will contain various architectural elements, even if the car will be built on the same platform.

The new Defender will have no connection with the Discovery Sport or the Evoque model. Speth added that the Defender will be quite different from the other models that have the same components because a vehicle with such capabilities must be very strong indeed. The whole bodywork will be more compact and this feature will mean that the new Defender will be easier to handle.
According to rumors in the specialized press, the new Defender generation will use plenty of aluminum in its structure and the suspension will be independent and will have steel springs.

Under the hood the 2018 Defender model will have a range of engine options from within the JLR group. That means we will have a V6 engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters and the V8 engine with a displacement of 5.0 liters, but also the new engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters, with four cylinders, which will be available on the Jaguar XE too.

In addition to those stated above, Ralph Speth said that “all of our vehicles must produce money.” Representatives of the Land Rover company had previously been reluctant to confirm their next project, or better said the next generation of Defender. This happened because the company is struggling to justify the cost of a model which is a low-volume car, but must offer top off-road characteristics, like its predecessor.

Although we have some information about the new car from Land Rover up to the official launch in 2018, there are several mysteries to be elucidated.
These puzzles pieces have appeared because Jaguar Land Rover is still trapped between two types of customers: the hardcore car users, such as those that drive military vehicles on rugged terrain, and the casual users for off-road vehicles, who love these types of cars for entertainment.
Therefore, if they pick one group, it is quite possible for the other group to be removed, so it is a difficult decision for them.
