Land Rover Plans for Designing a New Sub Compact SUV
|   Tuesday, April 16, 2013
Land Rover is considering the possibilities of manufacturing a baby SUV in the market. This vehicle – if designed – will be sold in various markets globally and will be priced at the entry level to attract mass sales. However, insiders have confirmed that the quality will not be compromised on in order to decrease the base amount. Designing such a model could take basic priority and the company is probing all angles before making a final call.

The subcompact SUV segment is on a roll and this is the thing of the future. Therefore, tapping into this sector at the moment is a very important decision and could help the company fare well in the future. If this project gains the support of the authorities, the subcompact SUV would measure 4 meters while sources claim that the vehicle could be based on a new platform designed by Indian owners Tata Motors and new Chinese ally Chery.

Engineers from Tata are working on a new petrol and diesel engine technology based on the 1.4 and 1.6 liter capacity and there are chances of these being used in the new subcompact SUV. The price of the SUV is expected to start from £18,000 while higher end models could cost more.

This makes this vehicle costlier than the Mini Countryman and places the vehicle at par with the Range Rover Freelander. Entry models could also feature front wheel drive. According to global financial data, demand for the B Segment vehicles is expected to rise by 2020 and hence major car makers are planning on designing their vehicles in order to meet the deadline. Jaguar Land Rover claims that the company will manufacture 2.5 Million vehicles by 2020.

This is set to be the first vehicle from Jaguar Land Rover to be sourced completely from India and the company is making all the necessary arrangements and incurs to ensure the benefits of such a proposition for the long run. Jaguar Land Rover has ambitious plans to expand world over and this model could very well be the stepping stone to new markets in the future.

India could be the next platform for the vehicles from Jaguar Land Rover and this is a strategic location as the growing Chinese market is just next door. South America is also a probable market for the products from Jaguar Land Rover and the company plans on expanding into Brazil as well. There is a lot of potential for smaller vehicles considering the global economic condition of the moment and the compact SUVs are set to make a better impression than either crossovers or pickups.

Jaguar Land Rover plans on designing vehicles that are available and serviced globally and the new subcompact SUV is the way to be. However, this is still in its initial stages and final production plans are yet to be finalized. But considering the global project that this is, there is a very little chance of this project being shelved at the moment.
