Land Rover Discovery Sport to Replace Current Generation Freelander By 2015
|   Thursday, May 22, 2014
The Land Rover Freelander has been given a final makeover, right before being replaced by the latest Discovery Sport, early next year. Land Rover has introduced a range topping Metropolis trim on the Freelander, which will set your back by a cool £35,995. It is the most luxurious Freelander designed till date and has a series of luxury upgrades, not found on any other variants.

With the Metropolis, Land Rover has hinted at their next generation Discovery Sport, which is expected to be laden with high end luxury features.
It will sport premium interior and exterior features, as compared to the current generation Freelander. The Metropolis, however, is not a unique production and draws inspiration from the HSE Lux flagship model, which featured a range of unique additions, for a premium price tag!

Some of the premium features available on this model included 19 inch sports alloyed rims, a premium sound system from Meridian, along with a compete leather interior trim. Technology was quite high too, including satellite navigation, rear parking sensors and camera. Black matt or gloss exterior, with a complementing interior, is also available on special request, while matching carpets could also be yours.

The Freelander Metropolis will be available only be available in a single power train option, featuring a turbo charged 2.2 liter SD4 diesel powered engine block, displacing close to 188 BHP. Torque figures are yet to be affirmed, along with specific performance calibrations. Smaller engine variants on the standard issue Freelander include a similar turbo diesel 2.2 liter SD4 engine block, displacing 148 BHP.

SE and SE Tech trim levels are available and they sit right below the Metropolis, in range. Land Rover is manufacturing a single engine with various power displacement capabilities. Their SD4 diesel unit can be calibrated to displace high amounts of raw power, as seen on the Metropolis, while fuel efficiency is also easily attainable, as seen on the lower end models. Land Rover will officially launch their revised Freelander range by June, for a base price of £27,765, which features base trim levels, along with a manual transmission system.

The Discovery Sport is expected to be revealed by year end and head into showrooms by early next year. The Discovery Sport is the first vehicle from Land Rover, to be seen testing under various weather conditions, in different guises. There are no major modifications made to Land Rover's current range of engines, which are quite popular for high power displacements and decent amounts of fuel efficiency. Current generation Land Rover engines are quite refined, hence, suitable for both on and off road adventures.

The new Discovery family was highly anticipated, as people were very happy with the Concept form, back at the New York Motor Show. We have news that both five and seven seated variants are currently being planned, although official confirmations are yet to arrive on the initial layout. Stay tuned for latest news and live updates about Land Rover's plans regarding their new Freelander family!
