Lamborghini Urus To Be Produced In Slovakia
|   Wednesday, April 30, 2014
Urus, the model that marks the return of Lamborghini after more than two decades in the luxury SUV segment, will be produced at the Volkswagen plant in Slovakia, where currently its corporation brothers, VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7 are also being manufactured. The model is expected in 2017, according to CEO Stephan Winklemann in an interview for Bloomberg.

To meet demand from wealthy clients in markets such as China, Russia and the Middle East, all the major car manufacturers have added new SUV models to their product ranges.
So the VW Group's Lamborghini, Bentley and Porsche brands have followed suit.

Maserati plans to introduce the Levante SUV next year, CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes said earlier this year. Meanwhile,Rolls-Royce is nearing the moment when it will take the decision to enter on this segment or not.

To increase SUV production at the plant in Bratislava, VW has installed the largest metal press of the group. This is capable of producing bodywork panels of steel and aluminum. In an attempt to reduce weight and reduce fuel consumption, the automaker aims to increase the use of reinforced aluminum in designing future SUVs.

The Urus will be developed on the new MLB platform of the Volkswagen Group, designed for the future Audi Q7 too. Lamborghini will use a mix of high-tech lightweight materials like aluminum and carbon fiber to achieve a total weight as low as possible. The Urus will benefit from the future generation of advanced four-wheel drive system, with Torsen differential. It will also be equipped with a dual-clutch automatic transmission and air suspension with variable ground clearance.

While Lamborghini is reluctant to disclose the exact motorization specifications used by Urus, the targets indicated in the specifications are quite clear: a maximum power of 600 hp, the lowest emissions and the best performance of the segment.

Forecasts for the Urus talk about a sales volume of 3,000 units annually. Right now, theItalian brand sells under 3,000 cars annually. Head of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, announced 2015 as the best year in the history of the brand, because of strong demand for the Huracan. The company's sales record was achieved in 2008, which meant 2,430 units. Last year, Lamborghini delivered 2,121 cars globally, up from 2,083 in 2012.

At the Geneva Auto Show this year, Lamborghini unveiled the Huracan supercar, its replacement for the Gallardo.
"The luxury SUV market is poised to continue to grow," said CEO Stephan Winkelmann at the Auto Show in Detroit.
Despite the fact that a brand is essentially dedicated to the sports cars, Lamborghini also produced a SUV in the late 80s, early 90s, called the LM002, popularly known as the Rambo Lambo, especially for military activities.

An SUV makes sense seeing how in the United States car market, the share of SUVs rose from last year's 29.7 percent to 30.9 percent. Lamborghini saw, China, including Hong Kong, as the second-biggest market last year.
Last year the brand introduced the Veneno, with a 3.9 million dollars price tag.
