Lamborghini - a journey from tractors to absolute beauties
|   Wednesday, November 13, 2013
Lamborghini is a major automobile manufacturing company having its roots from Italy. Right from 1916, when this company was started, they have been producing marvelous cars that have the perfect balance between comfort and speed. There has been a number of milestone cars in this production line, and some ups and downs of this company, and this article is a combination of a tribute and a travel down memory lane to revisit some of this moments.

This company was brainchild of Ferruccio Lamborghini.
His history is unique as he served in Royal Air Force during Second World War as a mechanic. Right after this war ended, he decided to open his own automobile manufacturing business which manufactured tractors, asynchronous with Lamborghini's present image. Surprisingly, his raw material resources consisted of military hardware left from World War II.

With time, his company grew, but not drastically. He had expanded his business into making boilers and air conditioners. He was not exactly an entrepreneur in that sense, but just a good industrialist, a rich one. He became so rich that he could afford a Ferrari 250GT. This sports car enlightened him and he decided on expanding his automobile manufacturing unit.

Ferrucci decided that Ferrari was fit for tracks only and not for roads. So he decided to make his own cars which would be less rough on roads. And in his attempt, the first car that Lamborghini manufactured (other than a tractor), was their 350 GTV, which released in 1963 Turin Motor show. They later decided as a company to remodel this car and sell it under name 350GT.

This car had unbelievable performance relative to its time. Back in ‘60s, this car had great acceleration, reaching 60 miles per hour in less than 6 seconds and high speeds close to 160 miles per hour. From then onwards it was speed all the way. Further improvement on this model produced 400GT in 1965 and a year after that 400 GT 2+2 was unveiled. It could be seen that as a company, Lamborghini was exceeding all expectations and growing rapidly.

Deviating from company' motto of producing road fit cars only, engineers in 1965 decided to invest some time and effort into designing a car that could cruise through roads and tracks alike. And indeed, their creation P400 succeeded, and went into production shortly after the concept was unveiled.

Bertone had a large influence on Lamborghini's success. They have been designing most of the pioneering innovations form Lamborghini for a long time during initial days of this company. Starting from P400 right down to Lamborghini Islero and farther along the line with time, Bertone has time and again given perfect body design for perfect car engineering that Lamborghini has produced, and this body design is equally important to Lamborghini's success.

With time, prices of cars have increased. These cars have also become more technologically advanced. Still, some things have not changed. Lamborghini has not compromised on style, comfort or speed, proving they are still rooted.
