Koenigsegg Regera: Just 1,500 HP And 0-400 km / h In 20 Seconds
|   Sunday, March 15, 2015
Koenigsegg Regera series version debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. The Swedes describe this model as the new "megacar" in their offer. This designation is justified given the specifications of the model which will be manufactured in only 80 units.

The first unusual element in this model is the elimination of conventional transmission in favor of a system called Koenigsegg Direct Drive, which combines electric motors with an internal combustion propellant and eliminates the need for gearboxes.

The Swedes say that their solution reduces transmission losses by 50 percent compared to conventional solutions. The four engines offer a total of 1,500 hp and 2,000 Nm of torque and directly engage the rear wheels.

The internal combustion is a twin-turbo V8 engine displacing 5.0 liters, assisted by three electric motors, one of which also has the role of electric motor and alternator. The V8 unit provides 1,100 hp on petrol; with E85 fuel we get even more horsepower. Its maximum torque is 1,250 Nm. The electric motor that also acts as a starter for the V8 unit develops 215 hp and is linked directly to the crank shaft of the V8 engine, while the electric motors rated at 241 hp each are connected directly to the rear wheels.

The all electric propulsion system is powered by a water cooled 9.27 kWh and 620V battery. Koenigsegg says about this battery that it is the densest in terms of power stored ever used for a series car because it has a total volume of only 67 liters. The batteries and power delivery system are created with the Croats from Rimac, while the engines are made by specialists from YASA. The electric motors deliver in total about 700 hp and 900 Nm of torque, significantly more than the electric propulsion system of any other series passenger car on the market.

The most impressive aspect of this model is the reduced mass of the electrical system, only 88 kilograms, along with the total vehicle weight of 1420 kg. In the version with all fully serviced and in a configuration ready to go, the Regera has a weight of 1628 kg.

The Swedish manufacturer announces that the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is achieved in 2.8 seconds. Accelerating from 0 to 400 km / h is carried out in just 20 seconds. This figure represents the maximum design speed of the vehicle. In 100 percent electric mode, the model can travel up to 35 kilometers. Also, the Regera has an on-demand battery emptying function in order to prepare for the next charging.

Those from Koenigsegg have equipped the Regera model with an active rear spoiler, fully foldable and automatically operated alongside other active aerodynamics elements, as well as an Akrapovic exhaust system.

All the elements of the bodywork that open are automatically operated and can be controlled from the owner's smartphone. This fact represents yet another world premiere for the Regera model.

Regarding the name of this model, Koenigsegg has chosen it from a derivative of the word "domination" in Swedish, and describes it as a never before seen combination of power, agility and luxury. Also, Christian von Koenigsegg chose the number of units produced, 80, according to a symbol of domination, control and realization in the Pythagorean numerology.
