Kia Cee'd GT Line Gets 1.0 Turbo With 120 HP And Sporty Aesthetic Package
|   Sunday, March 08, 2015
Kia has announced the introduction of a new version of the Cee'd range, called GT Line. This falls between the standard version and the GT and presents aesthetic elements of the Korean compact performance version together with new engines.

The GT Line version will debut in the fourth quarter of the year, however the model is presented by the Korean manufacturer in its stand at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

The most interesting thing about the new model is the 1.
Turbo engine rated at 120 hp and 172 Nm of torque, developed in-house by the Koreans. Those at Kia also offer a 1.6 CRDi rated at 133 hp and 285 Nm of torque in the Cee'd GT Line. The new transmission is also designed to effectively handle outputs of up to 300 Nm. This way it scores a better balance between performance, as well as the potential for even greater fuel economy.

The research and development teams from Kia have had as their objective a 3 to 5 percent improvement in acceleration (from 0 to 100 km / h), and a 5 to 7 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.

The 1.6 CRDi unit is offered with a seven-speed transmission, and two clutches, all developed by the research and development center in Namyang, South Korea. Unfortunately, the new 1.0 Turbo engine is not offered with the new transmission with two clutches, but the Koreans have not denied this possibility in the future.

After being used to the Cee'd GT Line, the new seven-speed DCT will be available on a few other upcoming models. It also dreams of having similar gains in fuel efficiency and performance, of course depending on various designs.

Another research and development objective was to reduce noise, vibration and hardness (NVH). To do this they used an external damper, which provides a higher level of refinement for the new transmission.

At the aesthetic level, the package associated with the GT Line's variant includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, redesigned front and rear roll bars, and a dual exhaust system. The side sills are taken from the GT version of the Korean compact and the external appearance is complemented by a set of LED taillights.

The interior of the Line GT variant enjoys upholstery with a new model, a leather steering wheel, aluminum pedals and piano black trim. The ventilation slots have chromed ornaments, the Start-Stop button is made from aluminum, and the USB and AUX ports are illuminated.

Kia is not the first volume manufacturer which follows the path of GT versions for their models on offer. The precedent has already been set by the French from Renault and Peugeot for their respective compacts. Such variants have been in the offers of other volume manufacturers in recent years because some customers want the aesthetic package associated with the sports version without paying for the most powerful motorization on which it is offered.
