Just Some Of The Top Luxury Brands Displayed At Detroit
|   Tuesday, January 22, 2013
Quite a few people have asked themselves if the world really needs more luxury cars right now with the general economic conditions being what they are. Obviously, those with little cash to spare thought that expensive luxury models are already pretty well represented and that we don't need more. On the other hand, we have those who don't really care if the price of gas goes up by, say, 1 dollar a gallon, or if getting a specific optional feature raises the car's price by 10,000 dollars.

As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle, with both opinions being well represented worldwide, but especially at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. We could list the poor people's cars and the rich ones' but we know that everyone wants to hear about the high end luxury brands even if they can't afford one. So, here we go.

First of all, we have the Lincoln MKC. The brand is trying hard to recover lost ground with this model. Supposedly, this is the brand's progressive luxury approach. That means the level of luxury in this thing is more subtle, therefore appealing more to those who want to feel luxurious rather than show it off.

Next, we have Lexus and its IS model. Rumors say that the big boss Akio Toyoda wanted his designers to make a car that gets noticed fast. Well, in that regard they succeed, because the car can turn a lot of heads. It remains to be seen if that is all the car needs to sell well.

The Mercedes CLA is thought to be one of the best looking cars the brand has put out. Naturally, there are detractors who think this view is not the real one. Regardless, Mercedes believes this car will open a new segment for young buyers.

Audi Q5. This is the opposite of Lincoln's philosophy, going along the lines of "this is how much money I got!" And you get your bang for the money too, thanks to the 3 liter V6 engine that sends this SUV to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.

The Tesla Model X is aimed at the truly eccentric buyers. If you want to drive at 100 mph while making almost no noise at all, benefit from all kinds of tech and luxury features, then this is the car for you. You will probably also be one the most exclusive drivers on the road too.

Again we find Mercedes with its E Class. Designers worked had to make the model stand out more in the crowd and by all means they have succeeded. This is perhaps a textbook example o how a facelift should be performed. Other car makers should take note of it.

Lastly, we have the Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis. Following the footsteps of Lincoln, the car also says that luxury doesn't have to overflow from every pore to make a statement. This is an attractive car, but it gives off an impression of not having enough personality, but we'll see if that's the case or not.
