Just 10 Myths Concerning Seat Belts
|   Sunday, August 14, 2016
Seat belts have been implemented in aviation over 100 years ago, while cars were equipped with them optionally in the late 40s of the 20th century. The first standard seat belts installed on the Saab GT750 appeared in 1958 and a year later Volvo introduced the revolutionary seat with the three points, which we see today.

Myth No. 1: Seat belts are not comfortable.
Reality: If at first they are not comfortable, wearing seat belts turns into a habit and then you do not feel comfortable without it.
Moreover, the seat belt keeps you well, increasing control over the vehicle, and needs only 3 seconds for coupling.

Myth No. 2: You can survive an impact without coupling the belt, because you are thrown off the machine.
Reality: Most of the passengers thrown from the car find themselves being crushed by other cars or hit their head on the asphalt / other hard objects. The percentage of those who survive in such conditions is very small.

Myth No. 3: Seat belts can cause injuries, and it's not good to wear.
Reality: Indeed, seat belts can cause chest or collarbone injuries if not properly height adjusted, or at higher speeds. However, these are tiny compared to the trauma which you can suffer if you do not fasten the seat belt.

Myth No. 4: You do not need belt if you drive slowly.
Reality: Even at 30 km / h you can receive immense suffering if you do not fasten the seat belts, while most deaths occur at speeds around 40 km / h. During impact at 50 km / h, a relatively low speed, the force with which the passenger / driver is propelled forward grows to several tons for a split second.

Myth Mo. 5: You do not need it if you drive short distances.
Reality: Most accidents occur within a radius of 40 km from the driver's residence and some accidents occur soon after starting the car.

Myth No. 6: You can keep a small child in your arms, unsecured.
Reality: At the moment of impact bodies accelerates very fast. Thus, you cannot hold the baby during the impact - even at 30 km / h the child's weight of, say 7 kg, will increase to 135 kg because of inertia!

Myth No. 7: You cannot easily leave the car in case of accident if the car is in the water or on fire.
Reality: Modern seat belts disengage easily in just a second and a single click.

Myth No. 8: Rear passengers do not need seat belts.
Reality: Just as the driver and front passenger, the rear passengers can be catapulted from the car during the impact if they are not secured with the belt.

Myth No. 9: The safest place in the car is behind the driver.
Reality: Those who believe that the safest place in the car is behind the driver must know that the safest place (16 percent safer than the other) is on the center rear seat if the passenger is wearing the belt.

Myth No. 10: If I have airbags, I no longer need the belt.
Reality: Perhaps it is the most widespread myth among modern automobile drivers. Indeed, airbags were meant as a security element that would replace the belt, but eventually airbags have been developed to work in conjunction with seatbelts. For one simple reason, the opening speed of an airbag reach over 300 km / h and can hit the head and body with a murderous power.
