Johan de Nysschen resigns as Infiniti Chief
|   Tuesday, July 15, 2014
Johan de Nysschen has resigned a week ago, completing two years at Infiniti starting from 1st July, 2012. During his time in the company he has shown a lot of promise and has spearheaded their growth. He had been there during envisioning of some good concept cars from Infiniti and also is responsible for overseeing production of some current models.

His resignation, however, comes very suddenly. Multiple reasons have been cited for this resignation.
Some is being cited by his former employer Infiniti and others by automobile enthusiasts and sources. However, none of them have been officially confirmed by Johan de Nysschen himself.

Infiniti is a part of Japanese automobile manufacturing brand Nissan. Palmer, on behalf of Nissan, has stated that Johan de Nysschen showed a keen interest in returning to United States, as him family was still settled there. This could be a probable cause, but relocating his family would have been a simple and obvious solution.

Infiniti has gone ahead and requested applications to fill in this post of Johan de Nysschen. They have welcomed both internal as well as external applications for this purpose. With their failure in racing endeavours, no one can say it is a big shoe to step into.

There is another possible cause that Johan de Nysschen is planning to join Cadillac. This again has no confirmation whatsoever. No one at General Motors is willing to speak on this. It is unlikely that anything will be confirmed by them until an official employment is made.

It is interesting to note that Cadillac head Bob Fergusson has also stepped down from his post and is working on some other department within the company. Some sources within the company have also mentioned that Johan de Nysschen has been talking with General Motors to fill up the post.

Johan de Nysschen was earlier employed at Audi. In his term of employment there, he was the chief. While resigning from his post, he gave a need to secure his future as his reasons. He also mentioned that he thrives on building companies and developing turnaround strategies. His job was exactly that at Infiniti.
Infiniti was a relatively new brand when he joined its headquarters in Hong Kong. He was appointed as chief with a vision of setting Infiniti at the forefront of luxury automobile manufacturing brands. Johan de Nysschen has been everything but successful at that effort.

Although the targets get by Ghosn for the company were a bit dramatic, predicting sales of 500,000 units of luxury cars annually by 2017, there might have been other personal differences between him and Johan de Nysschen that led to this resignation. There are ample reasons to believe so.

Another major reason for Johan de Nysschen being unable to bring a change to Infiniti is the exchange rate of yen, the Japanese currency. So although the company was running in profit, it was being not reflected in its contribution to parent brand of Nissan. Extended deadlines also couldn't solve this problem.
