Jeep Will Launch The New B Class SUV In 2014
|   Thursday, May 23, 2013
Jeep will launch a new B class SUV at the end of next year. This will be the entry model in the range, and it will be available for the European market in particular.

The new SUV is already under development, according to Luca Ricci, product manager for Jeep. He stated that the future model should be ready for production next year. Another insider Jeep source jeep mentioned that the project is finalizing its engine range. Representatives of the brand from European markets were asked to provide statistical information about the engines with the highest potential in each market.
The car will have a length of 4.25 meters and will be based on small displacement engines, 1.3 and 1.6 Multijet as well, 1.4 liter Multiair from the Fiat – Chrysler alliance. Traction will be only 4x4.

The future class SUV product under the name Jeep will be built on a common platform from Fiat - Chrysler, derived from that on which the Fiat 500 XL uses. Both models will be manufactured at Melfi, in the refurbished Fiat factory and which would produce no less than 4 models including a similar SUV, under the Fiat brand.

The emergence of a small class Jeep SUV is part of a global trend after the emergence of trende-setter models which have quickly become best-sellers such as Nissan Juke, and other competitors, like the Opel Mokka, Chevrolet Trax, Renault Captur and the future VW Cross Blue.

The current Grand Cherokee was launched only three years ago but has now been heavily revised to make it more appealing to European buyers.
"Feedback from customers in Europe told us that they wanted better on-road manners, better performance and greater fuel efficiency," said Chris Ellis, regional head of Jeep. He agrees the Grand Cherokee's on-road characteristics are below those of many competitors.

"But many of them don't have our off-road capability. We haven't been as efficient nor as good on road as these new entrants so that's what we're now offering – an SUV without compromise."

Kevin Metz, chief of product planning for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) described the revised model, which will be on sale in Europe from July, as "American to the core but with European appeal".

Jeep launched this month in Europe the new version of Grand Cherokee SUV. It has a strong face-lift that raises the overall quality found on the American brand's flagship model, including the introduction of a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, manufactured by ZF.

The representatives of Jeep have let it to be understood that they are taking into account the production of another new model. It will be a large SUV with 7 seats, complementing the offer in the upper zone of the SUV segment. Coming up with a platform for a 7-seat off-roader is not an easy task. Which is why Jeep may think about asking help from its sister brand, Dodge. Dodge already makes a 7-seat SUV called the Durango, a model pretty popular in the North America and the Middle East.

Another interesting bit is that Jeep might consider reviving the Grand Wagoneer nameplate for the new SUV. Back in the 90s the model was quite popular, with its wood finished side doors.
