JD Power Poll: US Top Car Brands Are Not Native
|   Sunday, August 09, 2015
Well, it seems Americans do not love their local automakers according to those from J.D. Power which usually give us polls with unique results. The study of brand attractiveness, APEAL (Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout) done for 20 years in the US, sees the 11th consecutive year being led by the Porsche brand.
In this study, the owners evaluates 77 parameters of the vehicle after the first 90 days since purchase. These parameters result in an index of a maximum of 1000 points.
The main parameters are aimed initially at the exterior appeal , interior, gadgets, comfort, etc.

The Stuttgart company's products received 874 points from a potential of 1,000 points. Second place is Jaguar with 855 points and BMW with 854 points scores third.
This time those of Porsche were the best in the compact premium SUV segment with the Porsche Macan, the Porsche Cayenne in the premium category of medium size SUVs, and in the compact sports car segment with the Porsche Cayman. However, compared to 2014 Porsche fell 8 points.

For its part BMW has improved its ranking climbing from 5th to 3rd place, thanks to the good results achieved by the 4 and 6 Series. The outcome of Mercedes-Benz has added 11 points, which allowed it to climb three positions to 4th place.

Lexus has registered the biggest decline among premium brands losing 13 points from last year, down from 6th to 10th place.
The largest improvement in ranking terms, was realized by MINI, thanks to the new generation which earned 30 points in addition to 2014, so MINI came up from 16th place to number 11.

Among non-premium brands the best advancement position was held Subaru, which climbed 5 positions, from position 30 to 25th.
Annual industrial average was up 4 points from last year at 798 points, and the most intriguing is that the non-premium brands are ruthlessly approaching the premium ones, although the latter continues to lead the ranking of the most attractive brands.

Thus, while non-premium brands have increased on average by 5 points, the premium increased by only 1 point! According to the J.D. Power study, erasing the border between non-premium brands and the premium ones is due to the advanced technologies that are found on more and more on non-premium cars, which until recently were found only on the premium brands. These include active safety systems, such as blind spots monitoring system or lane change warning system .

According to the study the cars equipped with these technologies are more attractive to owners, compared to similar vehicles which do not have such systems and consumers are willing to pay for these systems in order to feel safe.

For example, owners of cars equipped with blind spots tracking system installed on the side mirrors, brought the vehicle in question with 38 points more than cars that do not have it.

The poll was conducted among 84,000 drivers, from February to May 2015. The respondents were only drivers who bought the car models produced in 2015.
In 2014, the first two places in the JD APEAL rankings were occupied by Porsche and Jaguar, third place Audi, Land Rover fourth and fifth position was occupied by BMW.
