Jaguar Working on Petrol Drive Train for Entry Level F Type Vehicle
|   Saturday, February 08, 2014
Jaguar's F Type Convertible was considered to be a prototype for Jaguar Land Rover's latest four-cylindered turbocharger technology. External modifications gave been conducted to provide ample space under the hood, while a slightly raised grille along with new exhaust pipes, give this vehicle an all new appeal. This prototype exhaust system could make its way into production variants although future plans are uncertain.

This exhaust has to work efficiently with the latest four cylinder engine setup.
Combustion ratio needs to be adjusted to offer best fuel efficiency and performance, while back pressure needs to be optimized for maximum gain. Engineers working on this vehicle have affirmed that previous drive trains could effortlessly fit their convertible, if need be, as the F Type Architecture is unique in its own right. A turbocharged four-cylinder engine is currently missed in Jaguar's lineup.

Hence, introducing this variant could result in additional sales in the distant future. Tests are currently being performed on a suitable drive train. Hence, production variants are still some time off from launch. Jaguar has never actually worked on a four cylindered engine full time, even though they had plans to install a four cylinder engine on their XK120. They decided to go for the V6 engine block instead.

Modern generation four cylindered hot fire engines are more powerful and capable than their predecessors, which in turn works in their favor. Even though they may be small block as compared to bigger rivals, but four cylinder engines provide decent performance as well as practical levels of fuel efficiency and CO2 efficiency. This in turn makes them easy to use for daily commuting. Jaguar however claims that a four cylindered F Type Convertible is still some time off, while deliveries could start post 2015.

Pre production hot fire engines will however be installed in other chassis for road tests and we will get you pictures and news when that happens. Needless to say, expectations are high, as Jaguar claim this engine will create benchmarks in terms of power delivery, performance and fuel efficiency. Diesel engines are up for launch in class, as Jaguar considers this to be a massive market.

Jaguar as a result needs some time before they are eligible to enter the petrol friendly market of America. We are expecting production vehicles to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015. V6 and V8 engine options are set to be unveiled initially, even though smaller options are likely to be available. Test mules have been spotted during winter testing although light camouflaging was seen.

We believe it is near completion due to their current status. Minor changes have been made on its hood as well, along with a new foldable roof. Do you think this vehicle has what it takes to take on stiff market competition? Stay tuned to find out how Jaguar fares across global markets. This is a promising vehicle, while a range of drive train measures will make it even more desirable.
