Jaguar Will Produce Nine XKSS Copies For The Sum Of 1 Million Pounds
|   Saturday, May 07, 2016
Within the project Special GT E Type Jaguar has enjoyed much praise when they built the last 6 copies of the E-Type model, which they have failed to produce in 1963.
Each copy was created after the 1963 model specifications and was sold with prices that exceeded 1 million pounds. Thus, the company found the courage to develop departments dedicated to classical models.

As a result, today there is a Jaguar Classic and a Land Rover Classic which has workshops in Browns Lane, Solihull, respectively, and restores old models from both brands.

And now, Jaguar Classic announces it will build nine specimens of the XKSS respecting absolutely all the specifications of the original model from 1957. They will replace the 9 specimens that were burned during the fire that engulfed the Browns Lane factory 59 years ago.

XKSS was the street version of the legendary Jaguar D -Type, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1955, 1956 and 1957. The Jaguar D-Type was a car with impressive performance, reaching at Le Mans a top speed of 278.09 km / h (172.8 mph).

In 1957, when its glorious career came to an end, there were 25 unsold copies for competitions. Therefore, Sir William Lyons had decided to adapt them according to the rules of approval required in the US for a road car. So the Jaguar D - Type was converted to XKSS. Therefore, the manufacturer gave up the wing located behind the driver's seat, and a tall windscreen was mounted. Also, the panel separating the driver and front-seat passenger space was removed, and a door was fitted for the passenger.

It seems that the Jaguar has manufactured the D - Type model between 1954 and 1957 exclusively as a racing car. In total, it has manufactured only 18 cars to participate in Le Mans, 53 cars sold to private people and 25 vehicles that did not find an owner, being transformed into XKSS models. Of these 25 samples, only 16 were sold because the other 9 were destroyed in a fire.

Among the customers of this superb car actor Steve McQueen was counted. The actor has sold the car to casinos owner William Harrah, only to buy back the car at double the price. Most of these cars survived to the present. Although there is none up for sale, the price of an original model is estimated at five million dollars.
However, being a racing car converted into a road car, the Jaguar XKSS is considered as the first supercar in history. Now Jaguar Classic will rebuild nine XKSS copies to complete the project from 1957. Each new copy will cost more than 1 million pounds and deliveries to customers will start in early 2017.

Tim Hannig, Jaguar Land Rover Classic director said that "The XKSS occupies a unique place in Jaguar's history and is a car coveted by collectors the world over for its exclusivity and unmistakable design."

"Jaguar Classic's highly skilled team of engineers and technicians will draw on decades of knowledge to ensure each of the nine cars is completely authentic and crafted to the highest quality. "

"Our continuation XKSS reaffirms our commitment to nurture the passion and enthusiasm for Jaguar's illustrious past by offering exceptional cars, services, parts and experiences."
