Jaguar Plans for Designing a New Exterior for the XJ
|   Friday, April 26, 2013
Jaguar has plans to launch a new model of the XJ. The new vehicle will be offered in two distinct platforms featuring different dimensions and wheel base although the body styles could remain similar. Insiders claim that a final decision is yet to be taken regarding the next generation XJ although plans to design a new body style along with a new wheel base are expected at the moment.

However, two distinct body styles are fairly impractical considering the economic situation as it would mean incurring double the cost of production which would ultimately push up the price of the final edition of the vehicle and hence cut down sales.
This does not look like a probable option although a new body style is required as custom markets such as China is looking forward to an old school design on the XJ.

The current body style is not quite popular in the Chinese market and hence Jaguar needs to come up with a new body style. However, the current body style is quite popular in the West and a conventional design would not be accepted as easily as the East. This has left Jaguar with no option but to come up with two parallel body designs at a time. However, a final call is yet to be made and no official confirmation is possible before that.

The current body style on the XJ is Jaguar's boldest yet and has a certain feel of masculinity to it. It is a very famous design and has a lot of fan following. Jaguar will not want to change its current body structure available in the East as it runs the risk of cutting down market popularity and sales. However, it has been confirmed that the Jaguar XJ will be offered in two distinct wheel bases, one short while the other long although it is unlikely to be available in similar markets.

Jaguar has always into designing retro styled vehicles and the company managed to break free from that type cast owing to the bold design on the new models of the XJ, XK and the XF series. The company will not want to head back to the old designing concept at the very moment as the new designs seem to be fairly popular in Europe and parts of America.

Considering the commercial viability of the XJ, a new body structure would mean guaranteed sales in the upcoming Chinese market. This is a great prospect as it would guarantee Jaguar's spot in a growing economy, hence increasing overall global sales.

However, the new body style is unlikely to be accepted as easily in the West as Jaguar has just broken free of its conventional image. This will definitely bring down sales, a margin Jaguar can't afford at the moment. This is a very tricky situation and the company has to plan things very carefully. Therefore, the only viable option left is to opt for designing and manufacturing both body structures together, increasing the overall budget.
