Jaguar I-PACE - The First Electric Jaguar Ever
|   Friday, December 30, 2016
The Jaguar I-PACE concept announces the launch of the first electrically powered model for the British brand. Hyped yet?
Jaguar seems prepared to ensure the success of electric cars in the market, as evidenced by the I-PACE. This crossover concept offers exciting design, increased range, dynamism and a spacious interior, all embedded in the captivating aura Jaguar has accustomed us to.

Of course, it is an unconventional approach, but very well prepared, to tempt customers which would have opted for Tesla's Model X and the future German electric SUV.
The I-PACE series version will be sold by mid-2018 and will likely bring new customers to the Jaguar marque.

Discussing the I-PACE release, officials from Jaguar explain that public transportation will change in the next decade, more than it did in the last 50 years. Also the series model, prefigured by the I-PACE concept, will be the first electric car belonging to the British brand.

Jaguar describes it as the most intelligent 5-seater car, a family car and an SUV, all in the same package.
The production model is credited by Jaguar with a range of 500 km. Thus, the manufacturer estimates that recharging the batteries should be done once a week. At a source of 50kW DC, the batteries can charge to 80 percent in 90 minutes, or 100 percent in less than 2 hours.

The propulsion systems, 100 percent electric, of the Jaguar I-PACE is composed of one lithium-ion battery pack rated at 90 kWh, and two electric motors, one on each axle. The electric motors set in motion the four wheel drive, and together produce 400 hp and 700 Nm of torque delivered instantly. These impressive resources allow a sprint from 0 to 96 km / h in about 4 seconds. In other words, the I-PACE has the same torque as the flagship F-TYPE SVR, and accelerates similar to the F-TYPE R AWD Coupe up to 100 km / h.

The battery pack and electric motors have been designed and developed by Jaguar – Land Rover. The batteries have been placed as close to the ground as possible, to lower the car's center of gravity, which promotes stability and dynamic behavior.

Furthermore, the I-PACE takes over the 2 wishbone suspension architecture which has proven dynamic qualities both for the F-PACE SUV and the F-TYPE sports model. For the rear axle, the independent rear suspension "Integral Link" was chosen, which is also found in models like the XE, XF and F-PACE. This suspension allows the longitude and lateral stiffness to be tuned separately. In other words, the balance between comfort and agility is superior to the multilink suspension.
The original proportions are accented by oversized 23-inch wheels. Thanks to the fluid silhouette, the new I-PACE has a drag coefficient of just 0.29. The electric concept measures 4,680 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, 1,560 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,990 mm.

The interior is extremely spacious for five occupants, providing domestic connectivity and a 12-inch interactive display for the driver.
Just like the electric car from Tesla, the new I-Pace also has two compartments for luggage - one in front with a volume of 28 liters and a traditional one of 530 liters.

Overall, things are looking pretty good, so let's hope reality matches the dream.
