Jag Plans has Ambitious Plans to Sell 500K Cars, Add SUV

On a weekend busy with announcements from Detroit's North American International Auto Show, Jaguar joined the parade with the announcement that the SUV plans that were unveiled two years ago will become part of its lineup in 2016.

According to Bloomberg, Jaguar will add the five-place F-PACE crossover next year. The F-PACE is based on the CX-17 concept car that was shown to the public last year. The new model continues the automaker's expansion of its lineup.
An entry level XE sedan has been added to its product mix and the carmaker has drawn on and added Land Rover's Discovery Sport as part of its lineup. Land Rover and Jaguar are part of India's Tata Motors Ltd., owner of both marques.

Entries of the XE sedan are scheduled to begin during the current model year. The XE's competition, Bloomberg says, is expected to be BMW's 3-Series. The new sedan has been called the automaker's ability to compete for entry-level luxo sales. Jaguar halted sales of the former X-Type several years ago after dismal sales.

The automaker, Bloomberg said, is spending about $5.3 billion this year to broaden its lineup so it can compete more effectively across the board. The luxury car builder is the cash cow for its parent Tata Motors. It effectively contributed 81 percent of Tata's income for the year ended Sept. 30.

In addition to the two models, the automaker plans 12 more major announcements this year. It is a busy year for its product planners.

In discussing its product plans, the automaker is aiming to set a record of 500,000 sales for 2015, following sales of 462,678 vehicles in 2014. Last year's sales represent the fifth consecutive yearly increase. It represents a nine percent increase in sales.
