Italian Earthquake Victims Get Support From Ferrari Auction
|   Friday, June 08, 2012
Sometimes, capitalism isn't just about taking your last penny while leaving you with the impression that you actually matter on the larger scale of things. Every industry sector has a few companies that actually care about something other than just raising profit figures.

Ferrari, for example, will hold until the 20th of June an auction, the proceedings of which will go towards the helping the survivors of the Italian earthquakes that struck last month.
So far, 25 lives have been lost and material damage is significant. What's more, the Emilia Romagna region of Italy is extremely close to Ferrari's home.

The auction will see quite a number of collectible pieces of memorabilia from the company's glorious past. "I am sure we can count on the generosity of those close to Ferrari around the world who have always kindly supported this kind of initiative in the past. A terrible earthquake struck our region and the people we know, and together we want to help the families of the victims in this time of need. We are holding an auction of some truly unique and exclusive items for all Ferrari's friends and enthusiasts to whom I would already like to express my heart-felt thanks." These were the words of Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, spoken at the opening of the auction on the 6th of June.

The star of this event will be the 99XX Evo. Those interested in the car will see the bidding war start from 1.35 million Euros (approximately 1.7 million dollars). The car is a component in Ferrari's arrive-and-drive Corse Clienti program and will include support from the factory where a driving event is underway on a worldwide scale.

The unit on auction has been specially created for this occasion and includes a few unique features; among them we have a special plaque dedicated by Luca di Montezemolo and Ferrari's Formula 1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. Also, at the Monza Grand Prix in September, the three of them will personally hand over the keys to the new lucky owner.

Of course, there are other things to be had for those less wealthy. You can bid on the 2008 V-8 Formula 1 engine that won Ferrari the 16th title at the Constructors' World Championship category. The price is much lower staying at 50,000 Euros or 63,000 dollars.

Again originating from the Formula 1 world, we have gloves, suits, helmets, and so on, all of them autographed by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. Celebrating the company's 60th presence in the World Championship`, we have the original nose cone from the F60, as well as racing suit from Giancarlo Fisichella.

Those with an even tighter budget can settle for a T-shirt or other similar items. The purpose of this auction was for everyone, regardless of income, would participate. Make your way to Ferrari's website for more comprehensive information, and if you are in a generous mood bid on something that catches your eye; it's for a worthy cause.
