Infiniti QX30: First Teaser Of The Future Japanese Compact Crossover
|   Saturday, March 07, 2015
Infiniti will present at the Geneva Motor Show a concept named QX30. It foreshadows the future premium compact crossover model which will accompany the Q30; models will take platforms and technologies from Daimler.

The Q30 as well as the QX30 will receive the series versions by the end of the year, so the concept that will be displayed at Geneva in March should not be far off in terms of style from the production version.

The future premium compact crossover from Infiniti is the first of its kind offered by the Japanese brand and has the role to inspire a new generation of customers.
Most likely, it will approach the niche which the British from Jaguar did, respectively young and wealthy customers who want an SUV but do not seek a model developed by known brands, and do not need a vehicle with an impressive outline. Infiniti's new crossover will be introduced in production at Nissan plant in Sunderland, UK, by the end of this year.

The concept from Infiniti stands out with a muscular bodywork, enhanced by a set of LED taillights. The back has an exhaust system whose final pipes were intentionally increased, as in the case of the bumper. For an aggressive look the car was widened and at rear wing level set from ornaments made of plastic was placed.
Overall, the Japanese insist on the back of future compact crossover as seen by the published shots. According to official press release, theQX30 Concept is 30 mm higher than the Q30 Concept and will attempt to combine the design of a coupe with that of a crossover.

"We wanted the spontaneous fluidity of the QX30 Concept design to cut through the urban clutter and rigidity, reflecting its go-anywhere and spur-of-the-moment nature. The QX30 Concept has been designed to make occupants feel safe and protected inside, and customers can drive in or out of the city without worrying about nicks to the chromework. The QX30 Concept design conveys a sophisticatedly gritty sense of strength and durability, but tough doesn't mean rough. We've retained a sense of artistry throughout, even in the most functional of parts" declared Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director.

The European boss of the company, Francois Goupil de Bouille, explained why it is necessary for Infiniti to get a place in the premium compact car market: "Fifty per cent of premium car sales in the EU are in the C-segment… which means targeting the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series and so on. The [European premium] market is not an open door, so we have to offer something different."

He also said that the Q30 and QX30 will be exported to North America. "We expect to sell around 60,000 of the two models in the first full year, with 30,000 sold in Europe".

Going by numbers from JATO Dynamics market researchers, Nissan sold 3,888 cars in Europe last year, rising from 2,171 the previous year.
