Impressive 2013 Volkswagen Golf Estate 2.0 TDI SE 150
|   Sunday, July 21, 2013
The 2013 Volkswagen Golf estate 2.0 TDI SE 150 is a performance estate which packs in more space than hatchback but without having an impact on the total performance of the vehicle. The enlarged boot space along with the head and leg room of the vehicle is the primary thing which comes to mind every time a person looks into the vehicle.

The hatchback and estate look practically the same except for the larger wheel base which is the only distinguishing factor.
Both vehicles are designed on the MQB platform from Volkswagen although the wheel arches on the estate along with the practical 605 liters of boot space are the most notable features on the vehicle. With the rear seats folded, the Volkswagen Golf estate 2.0 TDI SE 150 has a practical boot space of 1620 liters.

However, it is interesting to note that the Volkswagen Passat has a boot space just two liters less than that of the Golf estate. Volkswagen is currently offering a range of engine options including an 83 BHP displacing 1.2 liter engine. A higher range 104 BHP displacing engine is also available while 1.6 liter engine options displacing 80 and 104 BHP are also available. However, the top of the range 2.0 liter TDI engine is the most powerful of the range which is capable of displacing 148 BHP.

All engine options are mated to a five speed manual transmission system although a six speed manual and automated transmission systems are also available. The top of the line SE trim will have a dual clutch seven speed transmission system. The 2.0 liter TDI engine was recently available for test drive and this was impressive nonetheless.

The estate handles just like the hatch back although the increase in size can be noted. Behind the steering wheel this vehicle is a treat to drive and the constant linear power supply makes the ride quality even more enthralling. Only if you look at the rear view mirror will you realize that you are driving an estate and not a hatch back.

The ergonomics of this vehicle is smooth and although this is not an aerodynamic vehicle, it does the trick. This vehicle is a great goods carrier and the enhanced space is a positive aspect. The overall build quality of the vehicle is higher than that of the hatch back and the quality of the parts and materials used in also high. The best aspect of the estate is the space and this is the only reason why people opt for an estate.

The cabin is quite airy and quiet which lends a superior sense of refinement to the vehicle. The suspension has also been generously modified which enhances the handling of the vehicle. Decent fuel economy of 68.9 MPG is returned while CO2 emission @ 106 g/km is available. Although the estate is not very quick off the mark, it accelerates from 0 – 60 MPH within 8.6 to 8.9 seconds depending upon the engine block.
