Icona Vulcano: The Italian Supercar With 950 Horsepower
|   Wednesday, April 24, 2013
The Shanghai Motor Show (will take place between April 20 and 29, 2013) was chosen by the Italians from Icona, to reveal their first supercar: Vulcano. The model has a hybrid propulsion system and has a whooping herd of 950 horses.

Icona is a new super sports car brand founded in 2010 in Shanghai. The Vulcano is the first release of the Asian company on the automotive market. Icona Vulcano shows that it is very high ambitions, targeting the market segment occupied by exclusive models such as McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari.
Having deep European roots, an area considered to be the cradle of supersport cars, as well as amazing performance, the new model can actually compete with success in the battle for its class.

The Icona Vulcano's appearance will likely produce a strong impact on those who will encounter it in traffic. With two seats, the coupe is 4.45 meters long, and its body is made of carbon fiber with aluminum panels. The aerodynamics and its sporty appearance make the Vulcano Icona a very strong rival for the European supercars.
The model was created by Icona specialists, some of them with extensive experience in the production of racing cars in Europe. The founders of the company are Gigi Teresio from the Tecnocad Progetti and Samuel Chuffart, from Cecomp, both with significant experience in the automotive industry. The Icona brand was created specifically to compete with the big name of the supersports segment on the Asian markets, where sales are increasingly larger.

This model was developed by Samuel Chuffart, the French designer who previously worked with Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover. Just 5 copies will be made.
The new Vulcano was designed to be offered in two different configurations.

The first one is called H-Turismo V12 and offers its customers a V12 engine of 6.0 liters and 790 horsepower, assisted by an electrical unit of 160 hp and an automatic transmission with six steps, responsible for channeling all that power (950 horses) to the rear axle.
The hybrid assembly rises to a total weight of 1635 kg, but is able to go from 0 to 100 km / h in 3 seconds, up to a maximum speed of 350 km / h.

The second configuration is called H-Competizione and features a supercharged V6 engine displacing 3.8 liters and having 550 horsepower. The gasoline engine is assisted by an electric motor and the total power ascends to 870 horses. The total weight is only 1595 kg.
Power is transmitted to both axles, through a four wheel drive, which makes the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.9 seconds. The speed stops increasing at 350 km / h.

Both the propulsion modes were developed under the supervision of Claudio Lombardi, the man who worked as director of motorsports for the Lancia Rally Division during 1982-1991. Lombardi has worked as technical director of thrusters for Ferrari in Formula 1 and Formula GT in the period of 1991-2000. Last but not least his name is linked to the motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia.
