Hyundai Working on Next Generation ix35 Crossover
|   Monday, May 26, 2014
Spy images of Hyundai's next generation ix35 Cross over, also known as the Tucson in some parts, have been revealed, while undergoing tests. This vehicle will be rivaling the likes of Skoda's Yeti and Nissan's Qashqai in class. The spy images showcase a rough portrayal of what to expect from the next generation vehicle, although heavy external camouflaging points towards a late 2015 reveal.

This vehicle was spotted on the Nürburgring track and public roads, on numerous occasions, at Hyundai's testing facility.
The ix35 is likely to bear quite a few radical design changes, which will distinguish it from their current generation variant. Hyundai launched their second generation ix35 back in 2009, while their next generation model seems to draw heavy inspiration from the recently unveiled ix25 Concept.

Even though the ix25 was a full bred SUV Concept, Hyundai has done well to resize this vehicle, in the form of a cross over. Wraparound lights up front and rear end lend a new feel, along with tapering window lines and new mufflers. Insiders suggest that Hyundai is currently working on a range of petrol engines, capable of displacing within 140 – 170 BHP, along with diesel engines displacing 116 – 184 BHP.

We could also be looking at an alternate fuel cell powered crossover soon from Hyundai, as such plans are likely to be under development. Insiders at Hyundai had earlier revealed that an alternate fuel cell powered vehicle was likely to be unveiled in limited numbers by 2015. Minor price hike over its predecessor has been forecasted, as numerous additions and changes have been made to this design. Final pricing is yet to be officially announced, although we could be looking at a premium over its current base price of £17,000.

Hyundai plans on launching this vehicle on a global platform, hence, specific prototypes have been spotted testing in numerous conditions, across the globe. China, Korea and Germany are likely to feature the next generation vehicles, before other global markets, as prototypes have already been spotted testing on road. The SUV and crossover market faces stiff competition at this moment, making things even more difficult for Hyundai.

Visible improvements have been made to overall build quality, while engine refinement is currently anticipated. Without official word coming in, we are unable to confirm these reports. The ix35 has a distinct German feel to it, which is not surprising, considering a major role that Hyundai's Germany based Research and Development team has played in its design process. Design wise, it could be compared to a range of Acura, Lexus RX, and Opel, although interior specs are currently unavailable.

If Hyundai wants to take over the current market with this vehicle, they need to enhance the vehicle's handling parameter. Interior space is highest in class, which should go in favor of Hyundai's ix35 for the time being. We are looking forward to test driving the ix35 and will get back to you with a comprehensive report soon. Stay tuned!
