Hyundai Presents Kona, Their Latest SUV
|   Thursday, July 20, 2017
Hyundai Kona debuts in a segment where avant-garde ideas, especially from an aesthetic and technological point of view, are imperative. This is the segment of the sub-compact crossover models, where Nissan Juke or the newer Toyota C-HR impose a high standard of extravagance. Kona's bold appearance, which thus becomes the fourth Hyundai SUV model in Europe, is justified. Its role is a strategic one for the producer in South Korea.

The expectations are high for the Kona, but Hyundai is well aware of European SUVs needs.
From 2001 until now, Hyundai has convinced more than 1.4 million customers on the old continent to choose its SUVs. 16 years ago, Hyundai launched the Santa Fe model in Europe. Now the range of SUVs is made up of the Santa Fe, Grand Santa Fe and Tucson - all enjoyed a good reception. For example, Tucson sold over 200,000 copies since 2015.
Kona has all the arguments to make a substantial contribution to the total number of SUVs sold by Hyundai in Europe. First of all it will be remarked quickly due to its design.

Bodywork protection strips, cascading front grille, daytime running lights and LED headlamps, different color ceiling, 10 color palette available, these are some elements that enable it to have an distinct identity, even in the presence of strong competitors like Nissan's Juke and Toyota's C-HR.

Kona will also address customers who have seen the Opel Mokka X, Mazda CX-3, Citroen C3 Aircross or Citroen C4 Cactus or Peugeot 2008 models.
In standard configuration, Hyundai's Kona offers connectivity via Bluetooth and USB, and the dashboard includes a 5-inch touchscreen multifunctional LCD. A superior infotainment system with a 7-inch LCD touchscreen includes a reversing video camera (with dynamic on-screen guidance lines) and extended connectivity through Apple Car Play and Android Auto, in addition to Bluetooth.

The top-of-the-line equipment is an 8-inch touchscreen LCD infotainment system that offers all the features of the 7-inch screen but adds a seven-year subscription to LIVE services, 3D maps and Lifetime Mapping (ensures annual updates to Hyundai vehicle maps eligible for a minimum of 10 years from the cessation of model production). Also, Hyundai Kona is also equipped with support for wireless charging of the smartphone by induction (standard Qi).

The Hyundai Kona will be available with 2 turbocharged gasoline engines. Three-cylinder 1.0 T-GDI engine develops 120 hp, a torque of 172 Nm, and is coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. With this engine the maximum speed is 181 km/h, the 0 to 100 km/h sprint is done in 12 seconds, the average fuel consumption is 5.3 l/100 km and the CO2 emissions are 119 g/km.

The 1.6 T-GDI has 4 cylinders and delivers 177 hp, 265 Nm of torque, managed by a dual-clutch automatic transmission and 7 speeds. With this engine all-wheel drive is also offered, which directs up to 50 percent of the torque to the rear axle. For this configuration, the top speed is 205 km/h, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.9 seconds, the average fuel consumption is 7.3 l/100 km and the CO2 emissions stand at 169 g/km.
