Honda Working on a High Performance Civic Tourer
|   Thursday, July 11, 2013
Honda is all set to launch a totally sporty version of the Civic, known as the Civic Tourer. This vehicle will sport the S type badge from Honda and if cleared for production will be a high speed version based on the current Civic Sedan. This is an ambitious project from Honda and the high officials in Japan are currently assessing the market needs for such a vehicle.
A concept version of the Civic Tourer will be showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show and depending upon the remarks and hype at the event Honda will take the final call on production.
This car is quite unique in its distinct way and has stirred up the market quite a bit. The engineers and designers are rejoicing as the project is nearing its end and this is the time for the customers to make or break the design.
If successfully passed, the Civic Tourer will be formally inducted into the lineup fall 2014 and plans are on to start production at the first notice of the management. The Tourer will feature a similar power train as the ones used on the current generation hatchback, Honda says that this vehicle will have many unique properties which will distinguish it from the other cousins.
The designers are planning on introducing an R type body kit on the vehicle for the official unveil although it has not been confirmed if the body kit will remain as standard on the final version or will be available as an option. It is however premature to comment on the situation considering the current developments. If successful, the Civic Tourer will be designed on the current platform of the Civic although suspension, power train and other mechanical components are to be modified.
The engineers have reduced the suspension on the Tourer and this will enhance the handling and comfort on the vehicle. The interior is yet to be unveiled although experts believe that the car will be quite spacious. If the mentioned drive train measures are to be installed in the vehicle, the Civic Tourer will be the perfect vehicle for cruising on freeways.
The car undoubtedly sports enough space as compared to the current generation vehicles and this is good news for people who are in live with the way the Civic Sedan or the hatchback performs and handles. The Civic is a complete vehicle and a Tourer is highly anticipated. The renderings of the vehicle are quite promising and if this remains the final design the car will find many admirers.
The boot capacity on the Tourer has been increasing even though the dimension of the vehicle is practically same as that of the current Civic hatchback. This was possible as the fuel tank was relocated under the driver's seat hence saving up on valuable space. The boot space will also increase if the rear seats are folded and the suspension is expected to be the best feature about the vehicle. The designers and engineers are tight lipped at the moment and people are waiting eagerly for a September launch.
