Honda FCV - First Information And Details On Toyota Mirai's Rival
|   Wednesday, October 28, 2015
Honda will present at the Tokyo Motor Show their own production model powered by hydrogen. The largest European Motor Show in Frankfurt has closed its doors, but all the major players in the market are preparing for another important world-class event: the Auto Show in Tokyo, scheduled to open its doors during 30 October - 8 November 2015.

Honda will take advantage of the home court to reveal the production version of their new model powered by hydrogen.
It's called FCV and aims to duel with the already launched Toyota Mirai.

The electric model is fitted with a real laboratory on board composed of the fuel cell in which the electricity is generated from hydrogen. Compared with the direct rival, Toyota Mirai, which is considered the first of its kind that is produced in mass series, the propulsion of those from Honda is placed in the same space the engine and transmission is found on a conventional car.

Thanks to this conventional location the Honda FCV,received an elongated front side, which affects a little bit the silhouette. In return the inside offers enough room for five people and their luggage. At the moment, information and images are limited, but the Japanese announce that the new model will have a range of 700 km (434 miles), some 200 km higher than the new Toyota Mirai!

The series model adopts a nonconformist lightweight design which wants to be highly effective in terms of aerodynamics. The front side is dominated by the angular optical blocks with integrated LED lights, a sports grille and daytime running lights shaped like a boomerang. The profile benefits from ventilated wheel passages. Moreover, in the back, the embossments hide a part of the wheels, a solution which reminds us of the old Citroen models, but which promises even greater aerodynamic efficiency.

The inside itself wants to be a revolution. Those from Honda have managed to offer for its customers a premium air suggested by white leather upholstery, inlays of wood and some metal details. The driver benefits from a sports steering wheel with three spokes and a large touch display, which gives a high-tech note to the entire cabin, a cabin that can accommodate up to five adults as already mentioned.

Honda did not want to give too many details about the drivetrain, preferring to keep some secrets for the launch in Tokyo. However, the Japanese said that the car will have electric motors capable of offering a sportier driving experience.

Powerful engines (and therefore we can expect at least two) will provide dynamic performance and the electric model will play the role of micro-power plants that could supply electricity to homes in case of natural disasters.

It is important to note that the new Honda FCV is actually an updated model of the FCEV concept, presented by the producer at the Auto Show in Los Angeles in 2013. Also, the FCEV concept is the successor to the Clarity FCV. The result of these successive changes is that the new FCV has a 33 percent smaller battery and power over 100 KW. The manufacturer also promised that refueling a tank lasts an average of 3 minutes.
