Honda Currently Working on the Civic Tourer

Honda is currently working on a Civic Tourer, aimed exclusively at the buyers in the United Kingdom. The car is currently running tests and is expected to arrive across showrooms fall 2014. This is Honda's take on the current market leader, the Skoda Octavia Estate. The Honda Civic is a trusted brand and hence developing the Tourer on this particular platform was the most practical thought.

The Octavia may not be a very large car but it does have a very important 600 liter boot space right under the parcel shelf.
This has been attracting customers in the UK and Honda plans on offering the same amount of room in the Civic Tourer as well. The efficient torsion rigid chassis of the Civic helped the engineers design the Tourer across the same chassis.

This as a result holds well while the rear suspension efficiently controls the bumps that the car may have to overcome time and again. The settings have been accurately done, which makes the Tourer quite a comfortable car to ride in. Precision and refinement have been Honda's forte ever since its early days and there should be no complaints regarding the ride comfort of the car, even though it cannot be compared to the premium segment.

Honda plans on offering about 600 liters of boot space which can efficiently be increased to 1500 liters on removing the rear seats. This places it amongst the likes of the BMW 3 Series Tourer and other premium segment German car makers. The Honda Civic Tourer will basically look the same as will feature a five door hatchback style. The chassis is completely lifted off the sedan although this should not pose much of a problem.

The adaptive chassis is 80 percent functional and flexible and weighs quite low while being on the economic side of things. Even though the platform did not need much modification, the engineers made sure things were perfectly in place, before heading off with the final production plans. The car should be decent fun to cruise around in considering the additional drive settings Honda has put in.

Comfort mode can easily be activated on the car which as a result kicks in efficient damper and suspension controls. The car then takes on most of the undulations in its path effectively. Compression and rebound happens effortlessly and automatically and the car behaves just like the customers want it to. Honda plans on installing a 1.8 liter iVTEC engine into the car while a 1.6 liter diesel iDTEC engine is also on the cards.

Honda confirms that the Civic Tourer will not possess a 2.2 liter petrol engine on the car although the engine options offered should be powerful enough for the Tourer. However, experts believe that the ride quality may not be very impressive for the young drivers, although most of the youth will not opt for a saloon. However, in general the car is agile and that is what matters on real road conditions. The Tourer should be revealed within the next few months.
