Honda Civic Type R Concept II Announces Fastest Performance Model From The Japanese Brand

Honda brings to the Paris Motor Show the second concept version of the Civic Type R, which foreshadows the fastest sports series ever created by the Japanese brand.
The Honda Civic Type R Concept II is one of the Japanese brand's exhibits at its stand within the Paris Motor Show. As the name implies, this is the second concept that anticipates the future Civic Type R series, the first in the model's history equipped with a turbo engine.

This time the concept is painted in a special shade of blue, but we did not notice any other changes compared to the first concept Civic Type R.
Both concepts are close to production as stressed by those at Honda, but the production model is still expected to come later on.

Honda representatives said the new Civic Type R will be the fastest car in the history of the brand, including in the comparison the Integra, Accord, and even NSX models, which bore the name "Type R", at least according to Suehiro Hasshi, development coordinator for the new Civic Type R. Among its special features we have the "+ R" function on the steering wheel, which modifies engine throttle response, its steering behavior and the firmness of the four adaptive dampers.

Enabling "+ R" will reveal the dynamic nature of the model to situations where the driver wants to take full advantage of the 280 hp provided. As long as the mode is disabled, the new Civic Type R will be a submissive model, suitable for daily commuting.

"In default standard mode, the Civic Type R is exceptionally agile, an everyday sports car with an enjoyable and fluid acceleration. The '+R' button brings out a more dynamic and athletic car for the driver, to set pulses racing. The difference in character is immense. The ‘+R' mode is extreme; the car is ideal for track use and will be appreciated by the genuine sports-driving enthusiast" stated Hasshi.

The second novelty of the Civic Type R is the "steer axis", a technological solution developed by Honda engineers to reduce torque steer phenomenon effects at strong acceleration. This system includes two additional pivots in the front suspension to maintain the geometry of the times when the driver strongly accelerates. The phenomenon of torque steer is common for models with front-wheel drive equipped with powerful engines and a high level of torque.

The Civic Type R has a turbocharged 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine that develops 280 hp and sets new standards in terms of power, torque and responsiveness. The high engine revs - up to 7000 rpm - combines with a new gearbox with six steps.

Like the rest of the range, the new Civic Type R was developed and designed for European consumers and will be built at the Swindon plant in England. The model is scheduled to arrive in showrooms in 2015.

Honda also wants the new Type R to break the present record for fastest front wheel drive lap time at the Nurburgring track, currently held by the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R with a time of 7:54.36.
