GM Has Been Busy Initiating New Recalls, Notifies More Than 120,000 Owners
|   Monday, September 15, 2014
One would think that General Motors would be tired of what seems to be the never-ending round of recalls that it has faced this year, but it isn't. Instead, the automaker has initiated more than 120,000 recalls for issues found by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as well as a number initiated and reported by the automaker.

That's one of the features of the recall program that many commentators and other observers never mention in their supposedly sage "analysis pieces" that deal with GM and its "recall problem.
You see many of the recalls that have been initiated were reported by the automaker, rather than safety auditors from NHTSA.

GM wasn't the only automaker involved with recalls either. Yahoo's Motoramic indicated that the following automakers were also involved in recalls:

Suzuki
Audi
Nissan
Ford
Aston-Martin

Here is a brief look at the recalls that were reported:

Aston-Martin: 440 Rapide S models were recalled. The 2014 S models, manufactured between June 13 and July 14, have a bad circuit board that can cause transmissions to shift out of gear with no driver input. This puts the driver at extreme risk and must be repaired.

Chevy, Buick: 120,426 Chevy Malibu and Buick Regals were recalled. The 2011-13 models have dual front turn signal bulbs there is no burn-out indicator for the driver so that one can lose a turn signal light and not be aware that a bulb has burned out. This is a violation of FMVSS 108. The driver can continue to drive the vehicle but others may not be aware of the turn status and there could be a crash. The automaker has to ensure the repair is made. GM is also updating the software for the throttle body control module.

Ford: 508 2014 C-MAX models were recalled. The steering gears were incorrectly assembled and this could leave the car's steering impaired up to and including a potential loss of steering.

GM: 22 2014 Suburban LTZ models, Tahoe LTZ models, GM Yukon models and GM Yukon Denalie built in May were recalled due to roof rail problems that could rip the roof airbag modules and expose passengers to added injury in a collision.

GM: 106 2014 Buick Regal, Chevy Camaro and Impala and Cadillac XTS models were recalled. Improperly torqued steering gear fasteners may cause an intermediate steering shft and/or the lower control arm and ball joint to separate causing a steering loss.

Nissan: 1,319 Frontier Crew Cab models were recalled. Built between June 15 and 26, 2014, the Frontiers may have an out-of-specification anchor nut installed on a weld nut plate where the rear seatbelt is attached. The seatbelt is not attached as designed
