Giniel de Villiers finds support from team and sponsors

Imperial Toyota has recently announced its decision to back rally cross racer Giniel de Villiers at the 2012 South African Rally Championship. Imperial Toyota is the retail automotive section of Imperial Holdings which is a major part of the JSE listed transport community.

Toyota Motorsport has entered three vehicles at the Volkswagen Rally, which is scheduled to be held at the Eastern Cape, and the Red Bull sponsored S2000 Toyota Auris is scheduled to be driven by de Villiers with Ralph Pitchford as his co driver.

The car was specially built at Toyota's Barbecue Downs factory, under the supervision of Glyn Halls and the Imperial Toyota Auris joins the other two cars driven by Elvene Coetzee - Leeroy Poulter and Carolyn Swan - Johnny Gemmell in the national series.

Toyota CEO Andrew Miller commented on the Toyota Imperial partnership saying that it was a very strong and beneficial partnership and the induction of Giniel in the team is a matter of great importance and fortune for all involved.

Toyota is a renowned name in the world of motorsport and the company has given due importance to motorsports since 2010. Toyota has experienced drivers in their lineup and this act as an added advantage to their winning statistics.

Giniel is an experienced driver and it made perfect sense for Toyota to hire and sponsor him for the event. The Dakar Rally is considered to be one of the toughest rally races in the world and the addition of Giniel in the team is definitely going to benefit Toyota.

At the previous rally at South America, held in January, Giniel came third in a Toyota S2000 Auris and he is hoping for another podium finish this time. The event was Toyota Hilux's first attempt at rally cross and Giniel did his part to get Toyota a magnificent win.

Toyota Hilux began its career in late 2011 and they were a formidable side from the beginning. The win sealed their reputation for the better and the team is hopeful of consecutive wins in the future.

The experience of driving a four wheel rally car over gravel and lose dirt is unique and Giniel is hoping that more such experiences will help him stay focused on the track for future rally races. The Volkswagen rally cross is next up in line and the Toyota Hilux team is looking forward to the event. Toyota motor sport and Glyn Halls is currently working on a new car for the event and Giniel reportedly cannot wait to get his hands on it for tests.

Giniel de Villiers was also grateful to Toyota, Red Bull and all the other sponsors for supporting him and he is also hopeful of winning the Volkswagen rally cross scheduled for next month. The Dakar rally cross was a hugely successful event and Toyota suddenly emerging as a winner took everyone by surprise.

The company though failed to express any such emotions, said that they always trusted their driver and co driver and the result was a expected one.
