Geneva 2016 - The Chinese Have Created An Electric Super Car With 2000 Km Range
|   Wednesday, March 30, 2016
Geneva Motor Show 2016 is considered the biggest European auto show this part of the year, so the novelties presented in world premiere in Switzerland are extremely important for the automotive world. Such is the situation with a totally new name in the automotive industry, Techrules, a start-up that comes from China, just like Faraday Future, which made headlines in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. So why do they draw attention to their concept simply dubbed AT96 Trev?

Because Trev is the acronym of novel technologies for the automotive world: Turbine-Recharging, Electric Vehicle.
This means that the car presented by the Chinese is based on an electric propulsion system, but which benefit from a range-extender system consisting of a turbine, the same as turbines used in aviation.

However, do not think of it as a kind of jet car because we are talking about a micro-turbine, which is able to operate with a maximum speed of 96,000 rpm and is designed to produce the electricity for the batteries that feed the 6 electric motors (one for the front wheels and one pair for rear wheels). That's right, the Techrules AT96 Trev benefit from 6 electric motors!

The total combined power of the electric motors (each weighing only 13 kg) amounts to 1,044 hp and maximum torque value is a staggering 8,640 Nm! So that means the Techrules AT96 Trev is able, at least in theory, to go from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.5 seconds. However, the maximum speed is limited to "only" 349 km / h.

But not dizzying performance is the true advantage of this concept, but rather the total autonomy, which is promised by Trev to be over 2,000 km. With a full tank the Techrules AT96 Trev can travel more than 2,000 km without refueling.

In purely electric mode, the battery with a capacity of 20 kWh, Li-Mn type (technology to ensure total charge in just 40 minutes), provides a maximum range of 150 km. Meanwhile the turbine promises an average consumption of kerosene rated at 4.8 liters / 100 km for fully charging the battery, and the 80 liter tank allows a range of around 1900 km. Also, in hybrid mode the turbine consumption can drop to only 0.18 liters / 100 km.

It should be noted that the AT96 (where AT stands for "Aviation Turbine") will be a dedicated track car, will only guzzle kerosene, gasoline or diesel in motorsport. For "accustomed millionaires" Techrules engineers are preparing a street variant called GT96 (where GT stands for "Gas Turbine"), which will use biogas or natural gas as fuel. The version approved for use on public roads is called Techrules GT96 Trev.

But the plans of the Chinese companies are more extensive: as Faraday promises a range of cars based on the technical platform concept FFZER01, the same will happen with Techrules that will equip future series models (set to be more affordable than this model) with this Trev system . Also regarding the system, its designers say it is more reliable than any other range-extender system.
