Geneva 2014: The Lamborghini LP610-4 Huracan, Sant'Agata Bolognese's Hurricane
|   Sunday, March 09, 2014
The Lamborghini Huracan, the new entry-level model of the house from Sant'Agata Bolognese, and the successor of the current Gallardo, was presented to the European public at the Geneva Motor Show.

Lamborghini does not give up the tradition of inventing a fresh title with each new generation it launches. This time, the Lamborghini Gallardo will be replaced by the Huracan, "hurricane" in Spanish.

Of course, the name also hides connotations belonging to traditional bullfighting.
Therefore, this name reminds everyone of a bull fight in the 19th century, famous in the Alicante region from Spain for its sharp attack sense.

The Lamborghini Huracan inherits the futuristic design influenced by sharp lines and extremely attractive of the Sesto Elemento concept.

The interior instead, seems a small-scale copy of the aviation-inspired cockpit displayed by its big brother, Aventador. Board instrumentation will be replaced by a TFT display with a diagonal of 12.3 inches.

The Huracan will use a mix of high-tech materials; the ultralight chassis is made of aluminum and the body from CFRP - carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The Huracan platform is called a hybrid chassis and is the first of the Volkswagen Group to mix both carbon fiber and aluminum. The same platform will be used for the next generation Audi R8.

The heart of the new Lamborghini Huracan will be a centrally located V10 engine. This engine is an evolution of the current 5.2-liter aspirated powerplant present on the Gallardo.

The new direct injection engines will comply with Euro 6, and develops no less than 610 hp at 8,250 rpm, and a maximum torque of 560 Nm. These results place the new model straight in the elite league of supercars capable of exceeding maximum speed of 325 km / h.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 3.2 seconds, while going 0 to 200 km / h is done in 9.9 seconds. Compared to the Gallardo, the average fuel consumption will drop from 12.2 l / 100 km to 10.5 l/100 km, which translates into emissions of 290 g CO2/km.

The Huracan will be running in standard format on silver alloy wheels measuring 20 inches. The tires used are 245 / 30 in front and 305 / 30 in the rear. They belong to the Pirelli P Zero range, and have been developed specifically for this car. A 20-inch lightweight model is offered as an option.

All-wheel drive, electronically controlled, will be fitted as standard, as the acronym suggests LP610-4. Stamped on the rear wings will be the strong flaring of the new Lamborghini Huracan.

A button on the steering wheel allows precise calibration of the engine, transaxle and traction in three distinct modes - Strada, Sport and Corsa.

For the first time in the segment of entry-level supercars, the Lamborghini Huracan will be exclusively equipped with ceramic brakes, while on the list of options we will find adaptive suspensions with magneto-electric dampers and variable direction.

Lamborghini will build the new Huracan model on a brand-new line at its factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese. While the newly retired Lamborghini Gallardo remains the most popular in the present (sold over 14,000 units throughout its 10-year career), the Huracan can overtake this performance. Already the car managed to gather up more than 700 orders.
