Future Renault Koleos Will Be Larger Than The Kadjar And Have Seven Seats
|   Friday, February 27, 2015
Renault is working on the next generation Koleos. The SUV will be repositioned and will measure five meters in length and can carry up to seven passengers.
The release of the new Kadjar compact SUV based on the same platform with the Nissan Qashqai has refueled the discussions about a possible replacement of the current Koleos. The French SUV has been on the market for almost seven years.

Koleos is in desperate need a replacement and it seems it is in the work and is scheduled to appear in 2017.
But the car will be different from what we see today.
The new generation will grow in size and will reposition in the D segment. In the conditions in which the current Kadjar has a length of 4.45 meters, which means almost as much as Koleos' current length, and it is expected that the new crossover will approach five meters. With such length the Koleos can carry up to seven passengers in three rows of seats.

Renault said that "the new model will grow to the maximum 5000 mm length dictated by the European D-segment classification".
To reduce the costs, those at Renault will develop this SUV on the CMF modular platform of the Alliance. This is the same platform on which the X-Trail version was developed and. So, we may expect that the future Koleos will share some components with the X-Trail variant.

Note that it would be the longest version ever made on the Renault-Nissan Modular Common Family (CMF-CD) large platform architecture. On this platform, just like the MQB platform from Volkswagen, the chassis is adaptable with five interchangeable modules (cabin, electronic, engine, front under-body and rear under-body).
Meanwhile, the Renault Espace version will stay the flagship for Renault until they will have developed the new version of Koleos.

According to unofficial sources, the Koleos is developed in China. Coincidentally, this is also the place in which the car will be produced beginning 2016. Laurens van den Acker, Renault chief design, claimed that the new generation will arrive in Europe somewhere in the 2017. Also, following the recipe of the current generation, the new Koleos will be sold in Korea under Samsung's logo.

"I think it is no secret that we are very late with this segment. It is a big gap in our line-up that we have finally filled and it is very important for us to finally have a C [segment] crossover. It was important to do the big brother of Captur – it was not important to do a sister of Qashqai. This [the Kadjar] needs to become the bridge to the D crossover, so this car has an important role to play. If we cannot get people to move from Captur to Kadjar, then we cannot get people to go to the D crossover, so we need this car [the Kadjar] to do well. The goal is not to steal sales from the Qashqai. It is to steal sales from Volkswagen, from Kia, from Toyota, and I think there is room in the market to do it" declared Laurens van den Acker for Britain's Autocar.
