Future Korean Rival For The Nissan Juke: Ssangyong Tivoli
|   Friday, January 09, 2015
Tempted by the mirage of the small SUV segment, which is in a constant growth in recent years, people from SsangYong will launch in 2015 a competitor to the Nissan Juke, the pioneer of its class.

South Korean officials have revealed the name of the SUV that will compete with the Juke after previously anticipating the model with a series of concepts. Two of them, XIV Air and XIV Adventure, could be seen this autumn at the Paris Motor Show.

Ssangyong XIV Air and the XIV Adventure are two concepts that pave the way for a future rival Nissan Juke
The new small SUV class will be called Tivoli, after a small Italian town, located 30 kilometers from Rome, in which the Concorso d`Eleganza Villa d`Este is held every year.
The car is marketed as being an "urban dynamic SUV with the best interior quality in its class."

Internally known as the X100, the model will have a length of 4195 mm, like the XIV prototypes, and a wheelbase of 2600 mm, enough to provide space for five passengers.

Although there is no new information about engines, Ssangyong said in the past that it will offer diesel and gasoline engines with four cylinders and a displacement of 1.6 liters, ready to meet Euro 6 pollution standards.
The new Ssangyong Tivoli will go into production on the local market in South Korea in January next year, and Europe will host its debut in March, at the Geneva Motor Show.

SsangYong Tivoli will compete in the market with models like the Opel Mokka, Nissan Juke and Renault Captur, seeing as it is a city SUV. The latest models from SsangYong are Rexton and Korando. Other SsangYong models available on the market are older but have been updated: Rodius, Actyon Sports.
The XIV Air has a targa roof and is meant to show the sports side of the Tivoli, while the XIV Adventure has off-road inspired elements like a protective front bumper, roof rack and light search. Both concepts have LED daytime running lights.

Luxury items include dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, ventilated driver seat, Bluetooth connectivity and a smartphone mirroring system for the infotainment screen. Plus, a rear-view camera and keyless entry also make an appearence.
SsangYong says it wants to give occupants "all the advantages of an SUV with the comforts and convenience of a saloon car."

It is possible a hybrid version of Tivoli will be considered, which would combine the diesel engine with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery.
Safety systems include ESP, Hill Start Assist and emergency braking signal which is activated to warn drivers behind the car. There will also be 7 airbags and other clever safety kits are expected too.

SsangYong expects to sell 100,000 units per year of the new Tivoli, and labels the car as trying "to create a close and emotive connection with customers."
This model is very important for the brand's attempts to break away from its reputation for its agricultural 4x4 and pick-up trucks. The new model will mark an important step towards refinement.
