From China With Love: The Electric Supercar Qiantu K50 Event!
|   Friday, May 08, 2015
At the Shanghai Auto Show we witnessed the debut of the first electric supercar designed right in China. It was baptized Qiantu K50 Event!, and drawn in a style that partially combines the looks of European supercars and partially has original features. For this achievement, China's auto industry deserves praise.

Author of the Event! Supercar is the engineering center CH-Auto Technology Corporation - one of the most esteemed in China. Among the clients of this center are the large majority of car manufacturers in China, and the start of developing an electric supercar was given a few years ago.

The first concept coupe called CH-Auto Aculeus, equipped with a V8 petrol engine with BMW provenance, was shown in Beijing in 2010. The media called this vehicle the "Ferrari from China" and the next project, CH-Auto Lithia debuted in 2012, with an electric propulsion system rated at 210 horsepower and a range estimated at 150 km.

The new vehicle, developed by the Event Technology department, founded in early 2014 to take charge of designing and producing electric propulsion systems for vehicles, is a coupe with rear wheel drive. The electric motor of this model produces no more and no less than 400 horsepower, with 650 Nm of torque and the design is more than nice if we look at the country of origin.

Those at Event Technology proposed several companies to take care of production. However, it did not find automakers interested in this action. This situation has motivated them to found the company Qiantu Qiche, which would roughly translate as a car with prospects or "Future Auto". The Event! Supercar, has a mass equal to 1685 kg and can reach the first hundred km per hour in just 5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 200 km/h. Recharging the 41.1kWh Lithium-ion battery pack takes about six hours from a 220V outlet.

The producer says he wants to start production in 2016 for the base price of about 100 - 110 thousand euro. How many people are wanting to buy a Chinese electric supercar is something that we will find out only in the coming years after we see the car on the road and if it's capable of travelling long distances without being labeled "Chinese" defective, an unfortunate label typical for cars from that country.

The racing version of the model has a full aerodynamic body kit, from a design point of view. This kit includes aggressive front and rear bumper diffusers, side skirts, as well as air intakes in the rear fenders.

The standard variant comes with a tamer style. This version offers a leather wrapped dashboard, door and center console cards, plus a touchscreen display for the infotainment system.

Nevertheless, because the Event! will be made in China it means it can get many financial incentives, something that competitor likethe Model S doesn't receive, not yet. Furthermore, CH-Auto is but one in the list of those who want to repeat Elon Musk's story; Fisker's new owners, Wanxiang Group, also wants to create an electric car kingdom.
