French From Renault Present Alaskan Pick-Up
|   Wednesday, July 27, 2016
Renault officially launched a global pick-up called Alaskan. The model was built on the platform of the Nissan Navara and will be available in almost all corners of the world.

Nissan Navara is one of the most popular models in the pick-up segment. Therefore, with such a resource in its portfolio the Renault-Nissan Alliance could not fail to take advantage. This way, Renault has its own pick-up named Alaskan, like the prototype which anticipated this launch a year ago.

The model, based on the Navara, will help the French to work in a global market where there are over five million customers annually. The French have entered this market last year with the Duster Oroch. However, unlike that, the Alaskan model will be a global one, even though its debut will also be recorded in Latin America.

Designed to inspire a masculine look, the Alaskan has some similarities with the current European models. We refer here to the grid size, the Renault logo and LED in the form of the letter C, embedded in the front bumper.

Another big plus, as expected, is borrowing some components from fellow alliance model Nissan NP300 Navara model. Just like the Japanese brother, the French pick-up is described by the manufacturer as a tough off-roader, a Work Utility Vehicle too. But at the same time, the French expect that the new model will attract private customers with active lifestyles.

The ground clearance of 230 mm helps it overcome obstacles typical for SUVs, similar for off-road, while the load capacity of one ton enrolls it in the habitual line of the pick-up segment, and the towing ability of 3.5 tons propels it to the top of the class.
The practical aspect is given by the four hooks, which are quickly assembled to anchor the load. There are two different lengths of the load box, depending on the markets on which the model will be sold.

The engine range of utilities is constituted by a single propeller twinturbo diesel, 4 cylinders, with a displacement of 2.3 liters, borrowed from the Master range. This engine delivers either 160 or 190 hp, and comes in combination with manual 6-speed transmission or optional 7-speed automatic one.
In the basic version, the Renault Alaskan has rear wheel drive, while optional 4 × 4 wheel drive is available. The latter is helped by an electronic differential, limited slip, and in difficult situations the lockable rear differential too comes into play. A Descent to steep slopes is also available.

The Renault Alaskan is not just a brute capable of carrying a tone in off-road conditions, as it is as utilitarian as it is a car. As proof we have the infotainment system with a 5-inch display, smartphone connectivity and, optionally, it can turn into a premium 7-inch display, with navigation and video camera with 360 degree visibility.

Renault plans to introduce the first Alaskan in Colombia later this year. The rest of South America, Africa and Europe will follow all in early 2017. The production of the model will be provided by three Renault plants, one in Mexico, one in Argentina and one in Spain.
