Frankfurt Motor Show will host the first public appearance of the new Audi Sport Quattro Concept
|   Thursday, September 05, 2013
Just a couple of days left until the great event that will also host the debut of the latest sport vehicle from Audi: the long expected Sport Quattro Concept. We are all very eager to see the latest concept which, apparently has been inspired and still keeps some features form the Ur-Quattro - designed in 1980.

One of the main features which has been kept by the manufacturer from the original concept in 1980 is the short wheelsbase which is almost the same as the one that Sport Quattro had while participation in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in 1987.
We should definitely appreciate the touch of history, which indeed will be reflected in the price too.

Let's not get the wrong impression, this is not a revived old model as Audi has really increased the power to 700 hp in a plug in hybrid powertrain. Quite an innovative and definitely an up-to-date decision, we have to admit.
This would actually have been a natural step as the contemporary car industry is a lot about hybrid and eco models and less about increasing power, although, the fastest and the economical, the better.

The power figures disclosed so far reveal a 4.0 liter V8 engine which is paired with an eight speed Tiptronic all four wheels transmission assisted by a disk shaped electric motor and liquid cooled. The included battery is a 14.1 kWh lithium ion and it seems that the car indeed has a power of 700 hp and 516 pound feet of torque.

Lately revealed by the company is the fact that the new vehicle has an autonomy of 30 miles on electricity and it should be able to reach up to 62 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds, also being able to reach a top speed of 190mph.

Although Audi Sport Quattro is an example of preserving tradition, this latest model is an example of mixing old with the greatest technologies of this century. The vehicle mixes the DNA of the Ur-quattro and the result is quite elegant. The road stance is also quite elegant, yet powerful, and it sits at top of 21 inch wheels.
The overall impression of the car is that it looks quite proportional and sporty, featuring the 2,784 millimeters wheelbase. There is quite enough room for a two seater, 1,386 millimeters.

The design also includes the already famous C-pillars and the double headlights in rectangular shape, it features the latest Matrix LED technology and, as we have been informed by the company, it should be available in December 2013 in a modified Audi A8.

The headlight includes two flat structures and it seems that the overall sporty look has been reached through the combination of the wrap around daytime running lights and the Audi Matrix LED. Very lightweighted and sharp also due to the fact that the tail lights and headlight have also been redesigned intelligently.
Last but not least, the housing and glass have seriously been diminished as the headlights relinquish fascia and discloses the LED heat sinks.
