Ford Mustang: The Sixth Generation
|   Monday, December 09, 2013
Unlike the old models, Ford has decided that the new Mustang is a global product, ready to be sold in any market, which is why the launch was done simultaneously in six capitals across the world. Europe was represented by Barcelona.

Just as expected, the new generation comes with a more evolved design with an aggressive character, suggested by the large trapezoidal grille and by the sharper headlights, the windshield slightly inclined and extremely flared rear wings.
The back is dominated by a deflector, in which are planted two chrome tailpipes, but without altering the traditional spirit of the old models by adopting lights in the form of three rods, all equipped with LED lights.

For those who want to feel the wind through their hair, Ford has prepared a convertible version of the model, equipped with a fabric roof that slopes down over much of the roof line compared to the previous generation.

The interior retains the influences of aviation, but raises the stakes with higher quality materials. Board instrumentation has been redesigned, and in the center of the dashboard has been installed a multimedia system that hosts applications like MyFord Touch, SYNC, and a powerful audio system. Last, but not least, the model was equipped with keyless smart access.

Entry-level motorization will be a V6 3.7 liter capable of delivering 300 hp and 365 Nm. For those who want a little more efficient engine, but just as much power, Ford has sought to bring under the hood of the Mustang a turbocharged Ecoboost 2.3-liter with only four cylinders. The fans of the true muscle car have nothing to worry about: the unit delivers 305 horsepower, more than the V6, and a generous torque of 406 Nm. The top will be animated by the popular V8, 5.0 liters, willing to offer 420 hp and 528 Nm.
The resources are transferred traditionally to the rear axle. This is done either with a manual gearbox, either through an automatic, with paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.

And because the equation must be perfect, Ford decided to radically change the suspension. Now we speak of independent links on the rear axle and MacPherson connection on the front axle. Everything was done for superior stability compared to the older generations. Connection with the asphalt will be made by means of 19-inch aluminum wheels fitted as standard on the European version.

"The Mustang's formidable reputation for performance and its iconic status as a symbol of freedom and optimism precedes it even in those parts of the world where the car has never been sold," Stephen Odell, CEO of Ford Europe, said in a statement.
"We want it to say it's quite a technologically advanced car, not a Neanderthal American,"Moray Callum, Ford's new global head of design, declared for Automotive News Europe.

Ford Mustang is a true legend of American auto industry, and has been produced in more than 9 million copies during his career of 50 years. Although it acquired the status of global car, the new model will continue to be produced in America, at Ford's plant in Flat Rock.

Jacques Brent, Ford's general marketing manager for large cars and SUVs, stated he expects Mustang sales in Europe to be modest. "Current global volume for Mustang is around 106,000. We're expecting some growth but we haven't banked on doubling the volume or anything like that."
