Ford Motors completes the production of 40 Million engines at the Dagenham factory
|   Friday, July 20, 2012
For the past 50 years, Ford has been producing high performance engines at its Dagenham engine factory and this has propelled increased demand from the East London factory. In fact, the production number has already crossed 40 Million, i.e. enough to cover 20,000 miles of asphalt.

Ford Dagenham began manufacturing engines from 1931 and it now specializes in manufacturing the fuel efficient diesel engines. These engines are mostly put into the small, medium and the heavy duty Ford vehicles as well as the medium range commercial vehicles.

Over 50% all diesel engines Ford sold throughout the world is manufactured at the Dagenham factory and some of the famous Ford vehicles to be powered by engines from Dagenham are the Ford Cortina, Granada, Capri, Transit and the Ford Escort.

Dagenham is Britain's largest engine production facility and 40 Million engine productions is definitely a milestone for all of England. In fact, engines powering three of Britain's top most selling vehicles, the Transit, Fiesta and the Focus, are manufactured at Dagenham.

Ford's most fuel efficient engine, the 1.6 L TDCi, is solely manufactured here at Dagenham and it is exported to over 20 countries from across the world for assembly. In fact this is one of the major causes for the economic recovery of the United Kingdom.

Ford's latest creation, the 1.6 L TDCi powers the ECOnetic model of the latest Ford Fiesta and the car claims fuel economy of 85.6 miles per gallon with an average CO2 emission of 87.5 g/km.

Some of the other vehicles to be powered by the 1.6 L TDCi are the Ford Focus, C – Max, S – Max, Mondeo and the Galaxy. These cars provide the best fuel economy in the range as well as the least amount of emission. Hence they are the car buyer's first choice in the United Kingdom.

Almost 70% of all Ford vehicles exported around the world are powered by diesel engines manufactured at Dagenham. Apart from Ford, the engines power select models of Jaguar – Land Rover, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Volvo and Mazda.

The petrol engines of Ford are manufactured at Ford Bridgend, Wales and the total production of both the Wales and the Dagenham factory is enough to power one out of every three Ford throughout the world.
If the production capacity of both the Ford Dagenham and the Ford Wales factories are combines, the total figure crosses 2 million engine productions per annum, 80% of which are exported.

Engines are usually exported to Argentina, Japan, Brazil, France, China, India, North America, Italy, South African, The Philippians, Thailand and Taiwan. Ford Dagenham has increased production and export to these countries hence increasing exports.

Ford added a diesel center to the Dagenham plant back in 2003 and the factory was wind powered. The plant employs over 300 trained engineers and craftsmen, apart from hundreds of unskilled jobs.
Ford Dagenham produces close to 2,500 engines per day, which makes it around 600,000 engines per year and this equalizes the tally of 40 Million engines in the past 8 decades.
