Ford launches the next generation F 150 Atlas Concept
|   Friday, January 25, 2013
Ford has been one of the forefathers in the American commercial vehicle industry and the company has seen some of the best launches being accepted in the market. Pickup trucks are a specialty that Ford deals in and the company has seen success for the past three decades at the least. Ford showcased the F 150 Atlas Concept Pickup at the Detroit Auto Show and this vehicle has received mixed signals from experts and the customers.

The F 150 Atlas Concept was revealed to challenge the GMC Sierra and the Chevrolet Silverado in the field and although this is a Concept people have one basic complaint – the current vehicle is not that different.
This is a complaint that has plagued GMC and Chevrolet too and hence even though the F 150 Atlas is not impractical it is simply not a Concept.

Experts believe the vehicle is powered by an Eco Boost engine from Ford with no real upgrades to the chassis, body or engine. No details have been revealed yet and therefore there is a speculation in the market. The exterior is quite bland with minimal protruding aimed at keeping the aerodynamics simple. There is nothing new in the design and the vehicle looks like a rounded version of the F 150 SVT Raptor.

However, a faction of people actually likes the F 150 Atlas Concept and would love to own one once it launches. The styling is bland but classy and it may be too classy for a pickup. However, vehicles from Ford have always impressed people and regulars are hoping that Ford does the same with the Atlas. Trucks have always been Ford's forte and the Atlas seems to have combined the best qualities of all its predecessors.

Ford has hinted at a future pickup truck, but it was unveiled way too soon and this could have been a reason for the enhanced hype generated in the market. The F 150 Atlas Concept features a reduced wheelbase and the vehicle packs in a punch. Although the price has not been revealed, it is expected to be priced close to the F 150 Raptor.

The interior is unlike its predecessor and use of large buttons has been done away with. The quality of the parts is decent and lacks the cheap feel that plagued the Raptor. This could be a best seller once it is available in the market. The suspension setting has been tweaked and the engine is expected to be custom tuned as Ford is aiming at launching a performance oriented pickup truck, just like the Raptor.

Performance enhancing kits could be made available once the vehicle is available across showrooms however this is just a speculation. Fans will approve of the idea as the F 150 Raptor had set up a new benchmark for all pickup trucks to be launched by Ford and the F 150 Atlas Concept seems to be the first competitor. Ford has not commented on the situation as of yet and it is expected that the company will comment after the event comes to an end.
