Ford Launches Fiesta With 1.0-Liter EcoBoost Engine With 140 HP
|   Thursday, July 03, 2014
Ford demonstrates the capacity for flexibility of the already famous 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine through the Fiesta's two special editions: Red Edition and Black Edition.

Besides the aesthetic individualization, brought by special nuances used by Ford designers, the two Fiesta versions benefit from the most powerful variants of the existing one liter EcoBoost engine in the Ford range: 140 horsepower and a torque figure of 210 Nm engine. That means 15 hp and 10 Nm in addition to that offered by the engine already mounted on the Fiesta.

According to calculations made by Ford, the power/liter ratio of the new version is better than even the one provided by the Bugatti Veyron and Ferrari 458. This achievement the crowning achievement for Ford engineers seeing that we are talking purely electronic changes brought to the same engine, which has already won two consecutive Engine of the Year title in its category.

In the official press release Ford announced that the changes are aimed at the turbine control settings, the valves, the intercooler and accelerator pedal management. Following them, the Fiesta Red and Back Edition, manages to achieve 0-100 km / h in 9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 201 km / h, with the average consumption announced by the manufacturer at only 4.5 liters / 100 km.
The gearbox is a five-speed manual, but their relationship is changed slightly, compared to the "normal" variants of 100 hp or 125 horsepower of the EcoBoost engine.

"This new 140PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine now delivers more than twice the power on a liter-for-liter basis than its predecessor – the 1.6-litre 100PS engine that powered the sporty Fiesta S just 10 years ago. I believe this engine sets a new benchmark for power combined with fuel efficiency from a small petrol engine" said Andrew Fraser, Ford's European Gasoline Calibration manager.

On an aesthetic level, the new Fiesta versions, available only in a three-door bodywork variant, are highlighted by special bi-tonal nuances Race Red (with black glazing ceiling) and Panther Black (with red roof).

"These two new Fiestas make an unquestionably bold statement on the road and will give drivers an equally distinctive experience behind the wheel with a sportier version of our 1.0-litre EcoBoost and enhancements to the Fiesta's acclaimed ride and handling," stated Roelant de Waard, Ford's European Marketing, Sales and Service vice president.

John Mcleod, Ford's European Vehicle Personalisation chief designer, said that "Both cars have an execution that's bold, distinctive and contemporary, but the Red and Black present subtly different personalities that will appeal to different customers. The more provocative car is the Black Edition – its red detailing and the grille surround deliver a high contrast for drivers that want to be noticed. The Red Edition car is highly expressive yet a little bit more subtle for the less exuberant owner."

The new Ford Fiesta Red and Black Edition are already available for orders and they will arrive in showrooms in September 2014.
