Ford Ka, A Concept That Anticipates A Global Mini Segment Model
|   Monday, December 09, 2013
The representatives of the American brand presented during the Go Further 2013 event in Barcelona a concept that anticipates the future Ka. From a stylistic point of view, the model is identical to the concept shown in Brazil last month.

On that market, Ford has launched the first Ka generation in 1997, a year after the launch of the first Ka in Europe, and the design of Ka went on another line from that followed by the European version of the model.
Based on the One Ford strategy, the American manufacturer decided the unification from an aesthetic point of view of the two versions of the Ka in one way, the global way, which is anticipated by this concept.

The new concept could give rise to a new generation the Ford Ka since 2014, but the official launch of the model has not yet been disclosed. Some say that the future production versions of the Ford Ka will be exhibited in 2014, and sales will begin within 48 months of that presentation.

The Ford Ka Concept presents the SYNC infotainment system of the American manufacturer that will be available only on the top versions of the series model. Unlike the current Ka, the new model will not have a common platform with the Fiat 500, but will get its own platform, based on the previous generation of the Fiesta model.

This has been done in order to achieve cost reductions, an affordable price, and to keep the model in the products bank of the American company, which is extremely important in terms of large scale economy and logistics when we speak of a volume model, especially since the Michigan manufacturer wants to sell it all over the world in the same form.

At the presentation in Brazil, Ford said that the new Ka has been developed in-house by its Brazilian division, and that the copy submitted in Barcelona has the same design. The aesthetic language is similar to that presented by the Fiesta facelift and the new models from Ford, a sign that the Brazilian design studio has followed from the start the global guidelines of the Michigan brand.

Ford estimates that the segment of models smaller than the A segment will reach a market of 6.2 million units per year by 2017, hence the development of this model. The anticipated increase by the Americans, compared to the results of 2012 shall be 35 percent, which exceeds the estimated average global growth of the automotive industry.

"Despite the challenging market conditions, Ford continues to heavily invest in new products in Europe to position the company for success in the future," Ford Europe CEO, Stephen Odell said. "The introduction of the Mustang, the Edge and Ka Concept are proof of our commitment to building our line-up with exciting new vehicles".

Odell re-emphasized Ford's decision to launch over 15 vehicles in Europe over the next 5 years, most using British engines. He said that "he was confident European and UK manufacturing could survive under the right business conditions."
