Ford Fiesta ST - A True Hot Hatch
|   Wednesday, June 05, 2013
The Ford Fiesta ST is a peppy little car with all the standard features of the Fiesta along with a rather powerful and responsive engine that gives it the appeal of an ST. The car also features minor interior and exterior changes that give it a characteristic appeal and make it visually soothing over a standard model Fiesta. Ford however has judged every quarter of this vehicle to make sure it provides a balanced ride and this feature makes the Fiesta ST a force to reckon with.

Even though the ST lacks a mechanical slip ring differential and a paddle shift gear box, this vehicle is quick off the line and that is what matters. Wheel spin in present in small quantities and this brings in the thrill of driving and cornering at speeds. The engine sound is also quite deep and this distinguishes the ST from a standard model Fiesta.

The Fiesta ST however lacks lateral grip and this is what makes sliding around in this car so easy. The ST is a great drift machine and could almost challenge any Japanese production car for a shot at the tile. Transmission ratio of 13.1:1 suits the weight ratio of the car and this gives it a very poised ride.

The ST displaces 197 BHP and could easily take at shot at the Peugeot 208 GTI and the Clio 200 Turbo. The engine displaces 20 BHP more than the standard version of the Fiesta and when the pedal is floored, people feel the instant boost kicking in. 0 – 60 MPH comes in close to 6.9 seconds and this vehicle feels fast nevertheless. Specific power outputs are obtained near the 6500 RPM mark and the vehicle revs smoothly till the point, crossing which it red lines.

The engine is mated to a smooth shifting six speed manual transmission system which defines performance. The interior does not possess any weight increasing parts as Ford has gotten rid of excess materials from both the inside and outside of this vehicle. The gear lever is clad in alloys and this gives the interior a bold feel. The upholstery consists of stitched leather while the center console is quite neat yet packed.

All the major controls have been packed in close to the driver and this makes driving easy along with controlling the non mechanical components of the vehicle. Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control measures have been put inside. ST badges adorn the interior while a sporty setup welcomes people every time they set foot inside the cabin.

Ford has done a great job with the Fiesta ST and this vehicle handles like a dream. Sliding is fun and so is driving up a straight stretch. This is undoubtedly the ride for the younger generation although there is no age limit for having fun. Although the general engine specifications have not been provided, it is expected to be out quite soon. Overall the ST is undoubtedly a hit hatch and we are waiting for more from Ford.
