Ford F-150 Trucks Recalled Due to Door Problems
Due to door-related problems Ford Motor Co. is recalling almost 365,000 F-150s in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Ford recalled the pickup trucks Thursday after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that the door handles are not working as expected. The interior door handles in question may prove even more disastrous in a crash, according to the NHTSA.
2009 and 2010 models
The recalled pick-up trucks are 2009 and 2010 models which underwent production between January 2008 and November 2009.
Changing the defective door handles and reinstalling new ones will take place once the replacement parts are available, and owners will be requested to convey their trucks to Ford or Lincoln dealerships for assessment. In a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the door handles may not be stable enough to withstand a crash. It's highly likely for the door handle spring to fail, so that the door latch could open during a crash. And while there have been no accidents or injuries reported related to the door problems, Ford is recalling potentially defective pick-ups from different regions in North America.
The "recall" trend
The first month of 2011 saw Toyota recalling 1.7 million cars due to faulty fuel pipes which could potentially crack and leak. Lexus GS 300, Lexus GS 350, and the IS250 and IS350 models were recalled from the United States and in specific regions all over Europe.
This month Volkswagen has also recalled 20 new Beetles, although the company has replaced them with identical ones. Reasons for the recall centered on compliance on crash-test regulations. Crash test guidelines in the U.S. require that all cars be tested at 35mph. The 20 Beetles were subjected only to 30 miles per hour crash tests, and therefore had to be recalled.
Now, some weeks later, Ford is facing the same recall-predicament, as it struggles to fix problems on defective F-150 door handle installations. For 24 years the F-150 is the best-selling vehicle in the United States. This hugely popular Ford pick up moreover has been the best selling truck in the U.S. for 34 years.
The vehicles have been produced at the Kansas City Assembly Plant and at the Dearborn Truck Plant. Ford will be doing the replacements and reinstallations free of charge at their dealership centers.
The F-150 truck
The Ford F150 is the most popular variation of the F-series. Its strengths lie in its capacity, power, interior features, and productivity. Its excellent engineering makes this pick up truck withstand more weight and pressure than any of its closest rivals in the market today. It comes with a Hydroformed frame, rear shocks, trailer sway control, and integrated trail brake controller. It has a streamlined interior, and among its most attractive features are a fully flat load floor, personal safety system, rear view camera, and in-cab storage. It also has a navigation system and an LCD productivity screen which offer flexible configuration options to the driver.
