Ford F-150 EcoBoost vs. Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Battles for Supremacy
|   Wednesday, January 01, 2014
Are you looking for a pickup truck which is both, fuel efficient as well as sturdy? Are you confused between various options across a similar price point? Well look no further as studies and drive tests have been conducted recently to help people sort out their dilemma when it comes to purchasing a truck. With the extensive upgrade of technology, fuel efficiency has been enhanced and two of the most popular vehicles to have made it to the top are Ford's F 150 Eco Boost and Dodge's new Ram 1500 Eco Diesel.

Consumers have a fair chance of weighing their options clearly before making a choice and details of both these vehicles are available on various forums. While Ford has downsized their turbo charged gasoline monster, Chrysler has maintained fuel efficiency on their relatively smaller diesel engine.

While Ford is offering the F 150 with a 3.5 liter V6 Eco Boost engine, Chrysler is current offering its 2014 Ram with a 3.0 liter V6 Eco Diesel engine. Both these vehicles feature a similar price tag, which makes competition higher while running costs vary upon usage and workload. Even though diesel costs are lower than gasoline, it is not environment friendly which results in greater tax payments. Hence, costs ends up similar to owning a Ford.

Ford is however offering a Hemi V8 powered high end F 150 while suitable customization work can also be done factory tuned on special request. This vehicle will be a gas guzzling monster and people who want such monstrous power at the push of a pedal will surely love to own this vehicle. Dodge has no such high powered option available, to take on Ford's F 150. Hence, no competition in this segment is possible.

Ford has installed a six speed automatic transmission on its F 150 while Chrysler uses an eight speed automatic. In terms of power production, Ford crushes Dodge as they produce 365 BHP and 240 BHP respectively. Power displacement however is dependent on torque displacement and both vehicles displace 420 ft lb of torque. Hence, when it comes to towing capability, both vehicles are equally capable of towing heavy loads.

Driving around in both these vehicles in urban conditions is difficult, primarily due to space. They are large and difficult to maneuver and park in heavy traffic conditions while fuel efficiency drops miserably. Hence, these are required for high way driving. While Ford returns approximately 23 MPG during high way driving while the Ram returns an approximate 28 MPG on high ways.

The F 150 lacks comfort and refinement as it drives on a 100 year old suspension system. It is hard and bouncy over surfaces which lack refinement. Dodge on the other hand uses modern coil suspension on its Ram. It makes a quiet ride as compared to Ford while drive comfort and fuel efficiency are in favor of the Ram. Both these vehicles are classy products and if fuel efficiency is not your primary concern, The F 150 is a more reliable machine, capable of tackling a lot more.
