Ford Edge, Kuga's Elder Brother, Will Be Launched In Europe In 2015

Ford unveiled at Koln the new generation of the full-size SUV Edge. It will be positioned as a global model, a direct rival for the BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
Unlike the old model the new Ford Edge will be available in Europe in the last quarter of next year. Thus, officials of the United States company have relied on expanding the range of SUVs for a return to profit in this region.

Developed from the technical platform of the new Mondeo, the Edge model displays a length of 4.
1 meters. This model will join the existing Kuga (derived from Focus), and EcoSport (based on Fiesta) to complete the global family of SUVs produced under the banner of the American company.

It is interesting that Ford has chosen to offer the new Edge accompanied by a range of engines powered exclusively by diesel fuel, a detail that stresses the importance the Americans attach to the tastes of European customers.

Therefore, a single 2-liter diesel engine will be available in two power levels: the 2.0 TDCi engine, of 180 hp and a torque of 400 Nm, and a 2.0 TDCi unit, with 210 hp and 450 Nm torque. The top model comes with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the entry-level, with manual transmission.
The new Edge will be the first Ford model equipped with the new Intelligent All Wheel Drive with Torque Vectoring Control and Curve Control drive system.

The new Ford SUV uses the same platform that will underpin the future Mondeo, and has a design inspired by the look found on the concept presented last year at the Auto Show in Los Angeles.
The front suspension is MacPherson, while the rear axle has independent integral-link suspension.

The level of active safety has significantly increased, says Ford. Many systems have been introduced which help the driver to tackle corners safe in any conditions, and avoid accidents as much as possible. Standard safety features include rear seats with integrated airbags, integrated airbag in the glovebox door, in addition to the classic airbags and traction and stability control systems.

The interior of the Ford Edge does not show a major change from that of its predecessor, but there are a number of changes to it. The infotainment system has an eight-inch display and includes the SYNC and MyFord Touch systems. In addition, Ford is proud to have one of the largest panoramic roofs throughout the automotive industry, optionally offered for the Ford Edge.

The seven board seats are divided into three rows, and dedicated space for passengers and luggage has increased in comparison to what the previous Edge generation offered, and which was sold only in the United States market.

Ford Edge, the elder brother of the Ford Kuga, looks something closer to what we find offered by Ford SUVs for the United States market. However, the model will look the same on all 100 markets which it will be sold.

Ford Edge sales have remained above 100,000 units since 2007, the first full year it was on sale in the United States market. In Europe, IHS Automotive thinks that Edge sales will reach 8,000 units in 2016 but the SUV's second-largest market will continue to be China with about 30,000 units in 2016.
