Ford C-Max Facelift: The Compact MPV Gets Focus Updates
|   Thursday, September 25, 2014
The Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max, the two compact minivans of the American brand's European Division will debut at the Paris Motor Show with a new look.
Applying the restyling seen in the Focus range, and unveiled in the first part of this year, has inspired changes in Ford's C segment minivan range, bringing the front grille that resembles an Aston Martin and integrated LED lights to the C -Max and Grand C-Max too. The back also has a changed design, the taillights are smaller now and the rear bumper has a simpler form.
The portfolio of colors associated with the C-Max is more generous and provides customers with new alloy wheels for order. The new C-Max and Grand C-Max facelift is expected to be commercially available starting 2015.

The interior is dominated by new SYNC 2 infotainment system also available on the Focus facelift, which has an 8-inch screen. It replaces most of the buttons on the old C-Max console and brings more ergonomics while having a less cluttered appearance. The material quality used on board has increased, explained brand officials, and the list of available features is more generous, even including a heated steering wheel.

The interior antiphonary has been improved too and the level of vibration perceived by occupants was reduced. In this regard, the range of diesel engines, are equipped with a special layer of antiphonary.

Whether we are talking about the C-Max or the Grand C-Max, the facelift brought new steering systems and new suspension settings. Both models are optimized for comfort without losing the dynamic character specific to the pre-facelift version, following the trends launched by the Focus facelift. MyKey technology is available for both body versions, allowing special restrictions for some users at the maximum permissible speed and audio system volume, while the list of optional extras includes systems like Bi-Xenon adaptive headlamps, Active Park Assist, Active City Stop system, reverse traffic monitoring and other systems of this kind.

The range of engines on offer by the C-Max facelift is likewise taken from the Focus and includes the 1.0 l and 1.5 l EcoBoost, for gasoline thrusters, and 1.5 l and 2.0 l TDCI units on diesel's side. Therefore, the C-Max and Grand C-Max are offered with engines delivering between 100 hp and 163 hp. Also, the PowerShift transmission will be available for certain units, just like before. In contrast to the Mondeo, where the 1.5 l TDCI diesel engine will be offered from April 2015, the C-Max range is available from launch with the 120 hp unit - the 1.6 TDCI engine is removed from the offer.

When it first launched, the second-generation Ford C-Max superseded a model which caused a lot of controversy: rivals sold seven seater MPVs for the same money, in contrast to just a as a five seater.

This problem has redressed in part with the second generation C-Max. Known simply as C-Max, this model is still strictly a five-seat MPV. If you need more cargo space, or two additional seats, you will find these features in the Grand C-Max model. The latter, in principle is the same car but with a more spacious cabin.
